China Institute of Press and Publication: The 19th National Reading Survey in 2022
I. Basic Information of This Reading Survey

Since 1999, the National Reading Survey organized and implemented by the China Institute of Publishing Research has been conducted for 19 consecutive times. The 19th National Reading Survey was launched in August 2021, the sampling of sample cities was carried out in September 2021, the questionnaire collection and questionnaire review were carried out from October to December 2021, and the data processing, data weighting and data analysis were carried out from January to April 2022.

This survey still strictly follows the principle of "same caliber and comparability" and continues to use four sets of questionnaires to survey the population of all age groups. Three different sets of questionnaires were used to interview the three age groups of minors (0-8 years old, 9-13 years old, and 14-17 years old).

This survey adopts online survey and telephone survey methods, and collects samples in 162 cities, covering 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in my country. The effective sample size of this survey is 42,456 (in addition, this survey is strongly supported by the "Study Strong Country" learning platform, and 1.26 million samples are obtained through the questionnaire survey of the "Study Strong Country" learning platform), of which adult samples account for 74.5% of the total sample size, and samples of minors under the age of 18 account for 25.5% of the total sample size, and the ratio of urban and rural samples is 3.3:1.

After the samples were collected, we weighted the samples according to the data from the seventh national census and used SPSS sociological statistics software for analysis. This survey can be extended to my country's population of 1.322 billion, of which urban residents accounted for 56.3% and rural residents accounted for 43.7%. The main findings of this survey are now published as follows:
