The difference between the uterus and cervix

The difference between the uterus and cervix

Perhaps in the eyes of most people, there is no difference between the uterus and the cervix, but the uterus is the full name of various organs such as the cervix. There are many organs and tissues included in the uterus, such as the endometrium, cervical opening, and cervical tissue, etc. If people develop cervical lesions or inflammation, these tissues will begin to become diseased and constantly invaded, causing many harms.

1. How to understand cervical erosion

The incidence of cervical erosion is very high, accounting for 70-80% of women with active sexual life. Many women lack a correct understanding of cervical erosion. They think that cervical erosion is very serious and even associate cervical erosion with cervical cancer. Cervical erosion is a normal physiological phenomenon, not a disease. The 7th edition of the textbook "Obstetrics and Gynecology" replaced "cervical erosion" with the physiological phenomenon of "cervical columnar epithelium ectopia".

There are two types of epithelium on the surface of the female cervix during embryogenesis, namely primitive squamous epithelium and columnar epithelium. The squamous epithelium is multi-layered, some have seven or eight layers, some have more than ten layers, and looks very smooth; the columnar epithelium is single-layered and relatively thin, and the blood vessels under the epithelium can be seen through the epithelium. They are like strawberries squeezed together, which is also a physiological structure. Normally, the columnar epithelium is located inside the cervical canal and cannot be seen with the naked eye.

However, under the action of estrogen, such as during puberty, the volume of the cervix grows rapidly, exposing the cervical columnar epithelium to the external cervical os, which becomes red and rough and forms cervical columnar epithelium ectopia. This is not really 'erosion', but a normal 'stress' response that occurs when hormones surge in women's bodies. However, the columnar epithelium is thin and easily infected by various microorganisms, leading to secondary cervicitis and the formation of true erosion.

2. Understand the threat of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions to women

Cervical cancer is a common malignant tumor of the female reproductive system. The second most common malignant tumor in women

High-risk HPV infection is the main cause of cervical precancerous lesions (CIN) and cervical cancer.

The following set of data is enough to illustrate how threatening cervical cancer is to women.

High-risk HPV-DNA can be detected in more than 97% of cervical cancer tissues

Cervical cancer ranks second among gynecological malignancies.

There are 500,000 new cases each year worldwide.

In addition, there are 1,000,0000 highly precancerous lesions.

Low-grade precancerous lesions 3000,0000.

China accounts for 1/5 of the world's new cases each year.

About 100,0000.

30,000 people died from cervical cancer.

From the National Cancer Institute of the United States and Qiao Youlin, Beijing Academy of Medical Sciences, 2009, Medical Research

Famous actresses Anita Mui and Jiang Qing suffered from cervical cancer

Although the incidence of cervical cancer is very high and scary, it can be prevented. If screening is done carefully, the occurrence of cervical cancer can be prevented, so the prevention of cervical cancer is very important.
