Causes of lower abdominal pain

Causes of lower abdominal pain

Women are always troubled by gynecological diseases of varying degrees, especially abdominal distension and pain, which is the most common phenomenon among female friends. Some female friends will have such symptoms during menstruation, and some female friends will also have abdominal distension and pain during the non-menstrual period. So what are the causes? Let's find out together.

Xiaoya has been suffering from lower abdominal distension and pain for more than three months. Every month when her period comes, the pain is more severe than before, and her menstrual period is also longer.

At first she could still hold on, but later on her stomach would hurt badly whenever she did something, and she would also feel uncomfortable after having sex. This made her resist sex, but she was afraid that her husband would think too much about it... She was in complete torment.

Later, Xiaoya couldn't stand it anymore and came to Xiaoran Hospital for a check-up. The doctor said it was all caused by pelvic fluid accumulation. Xiaoya was puzzled: "What is pelvic effusion? Why is it so serious?"

The doctor explained: "Pelvic effusion is caused by diseases such as pelvic inflammatory disease, adnexitis, and endometritis. Failure to pay attention to hygiene during menstruation, spread of inflammation of adjacent organs (vaginitis, cervicitis, etc.), postpartum and post-abortion infection, etc., may all lead to pelvic effusion."

Patients with pelvic effusion will have a feeling of falling, pain on one or both sides of the lower abdomen, soreness in the lumbar region, aggravated by fatigue, sexual intercourse, and before and after menstruation; decreased resistance, low fever, fatigue, lack of energy, general discomfort, insomnia; menstrual disorders, increased menstrual flow, prolonged menstruation, etc. Long-term delay in treatment may lead to infertility. Many patients do not know whether they have pelvic effusion. In fact, a gynecological B-ultrasound can check whether there is pelvic fluid accumulation, which is very convenient.

Doctors say that pelvic effusion can cause many hazards: abdominal distension and pain, affecting normal life; long-term inflammatory infiltration can cause problems such as fallopian tube blockage, leading to infertility, premature birth, miscarriage, etc.; the spread of inflammation to other organs can cause chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, cervicitis, adnexitis, etc.

Pelvic effusion? What is it?

Pelvic effusion may occur after pelvic inflammatory disease, adnexitis, or endometriosis. According to pathological factors, pelvic effusion can be divided into physiological pelvic effusion and pathological pelvic effusion. Pathological pelvic effusion is very harmful. Once a woman finds abnormal pelvic effusion, she should go to the hospital in time for symptomatic treatment.

Why does pelvic effusion occur?

1. Not paying attention to hygiene during menstruation

When menstruation comes, the endometrium will fall off, the blood sinuses inside the uterine cavity will be open, and small blood clots will be present, which is very suitable for the growth of bacteria. If you do not pay attention to personal hygiene during menstruation, use unclean sanitary napkins, toilet paper, etc., or have sexual intercourse during menstruation, it provides a good opportunity for bacteria to grow and infect, causing pelvic inflammatory disease in women.

2. Spread of inflammation to adjacent organs

Women are more likely to develop pelvic inflammatory disease when they suffer from appendicitis or peritoneal inflammation. When suffering from vaginitis and cervicitis, the inflammation will spread upward and eventually lead to pelvic inflammatory disease.

3. Postpartum and post-abortion infection

After childbirth and artificial abortion, the body is weak and the immune system is low. The cervix is in a dilated state. If personal hygiene is not paid attention to, the bacteria in the vagina and cervix may ascend and cause female pelvic infection.

4. Infection after gynecological surgery

Artificial abortion surgery, IUD insertion (removal) surgery, salpingography (hydration), etc., if the disinfection is not strict during the operation, it is easy to get infection after the operation. If you do not pay attention to personal hygiene after surgery, do not follow the doctor's instructions for recovery treatment, or have sexual intercourse too early after treatment, it will cause bacteria to grow and lead to pelvic infection in women.

What method is used for treatment?

1. General treatment

Relieve patients' mental concerns, enhance their confidence in treatment, increase nutrition, exercise, pay attention to the combination of work and rest, and improve the body's resistance.

2. Physical therapy

The benign stimulation of warmth can promote local blood circulation in the pelvic cavity. Improve the nutritional status of tissues and enhance metabolism to facilitate the absorption and disappearance of inflammation.

3. Drug treatment

Symptomatic treatment is provided by anti-inflammatory drugs or hormone drugs.

4. Surgical treatment

Patients with lumps such as hydrosalpinx or tubo-ovarian cysts can undergo surgical treatment; patients with small foci of infection and repeated inflammation should also undergo laparoscopic exploration. The principle of surgery is to completely cure the disease and avoid leaving any residual lesions. For young women, ovarian function should be preserved as much as possible. The effect of single therapy for chronic pelvic inflammatory disease is poor, and comprehensive treatment is appropriate.

There are many reasons for the pain and heaviness in the lower abdomen. I have explained them above and I hope you can get some help. In daily life, if a female friend experiences lower abdominal distension and pain, whether it is during menstruation or not, if it occurs frequently, she must go to the hospital for relevant gynecological examinations and should not take medicine blindly.
