How does vaginitis affect the fetus?

What every woman is most worried about during pregnancy is the health of the child. However, some women will always have some gynecological diseases during pregnancy. Vaginitis is a relatively common one. It is caused by fungal infection. This often makes women particularly worried about affecting the fetus in their belly during the period of vaginitis. Let's take a look at the effects of vaginitis on the fetus.

Effects of vaginitis on the fetus

Generally speaking, no treatment is required in the first three months of pregnancy, but if the condition develops seriously, the doctor will use medication for treatment as appropriate after three months of pregnancy, which will not cause infection to the fetus. It can usually be cured before delivery.

However, the bacteria in the vagina can ascend through the cervix, penetrate the fetal membranes and infect the fetus, causing miscarriage, premature rupture of membranes, premature intrauterine infection, etc. In addition, when the fetus is delivered vaginally by the mother, it may also be infected with Candida, which often causes oral candidiasis (thrush) in the baby. Some babies may also develop Candida dermatitis around the anus.

Symptoms of vaginitis during pregnancy

Symptoms: Increased and thick vaginal discharge, which is white and resembles tofu dregs or curd. Itching and burning pain in the vulva and vagina, pain during urination, accompanied by urgency and frequency of urination.

1. Abscess ruptures into the abdominal cavity: The condition suddenly worsens or the lower abdominal pain continues to intensify and turns into pain in the whole abdomen, accompanied by nausea, vomiting, chills, followed by a weak and rapid pulse, a sharp drop in blood pressure, and cold sweats. Physical examination showed absent abdominal breathing, diffuse tenderness throughout the abdomen, obvious rebound pain and muscle tension, abdominal distension, and weakened or absent bowel sounds. Gynecological experts remind that if a localized pelvic abscess ruptures into the abdominal cavity, it must be treated urgently.

2. Abscess: Symptoms continue to worsen, with remittent high fever, more obvious peritoneal irritation signs, rectal pressure, defecation sensation, urination pain and other rectal and bladder irritation symptoms, and systemic poisoning symptoms. Bimanual examination and digital rectal examination feel that the pelvic cavity is full, the rectouterine pouch tissue is thickened, hardened or has a fluctuant mass, accompanied by obvious tenderness.

3. Abscess rupture: After the appearance of a large amount of blood and pus in the stool, pyuria, or a large amount of pus discharged through the vagina, clinical symptoms such as high fever, abdominal pain, and abdominal tenderness are significantly improved. Examination shows that the original lump disappears or shrinks, indicating that the pelvic abscess has penetrated into the rectum, bladder, and vagina.

Prevention and treatment of vaginitis during mid-pregnancy

1. Before getting pregnant, women should check whether they have vaginal inflammation. If so, it is best not to get pregnant for the time being and wait until the treatment is thorough before getting pregnant, because at this time the doctor can use medication boldly without worrying about any effects on the fetus, and the treatment effect during the non-pregnancy period is much better than that during pregnancy.

2. Once a pregnant woman suffers from vaginitis, she must go to the hospital for treatment in time and use medication carefully under the guidance of a doctor. Try to choose medications that are harmless or have little impact on the fetus. Do not use medications at will, and do not abuse antibiotics or hormones to prevent drugs from causing fetal malformations. The treatment of vaginitis in pregnant women is mainly based on local medication, and topical medications are selected according to the different types of vaginitis, such as nystatin suppositories, Canesten suppositories, and Baofukang suppositories. Pregnant women must treat vaginitis thoroughly and must not stop taking the medication as soon as the symptoms are alleviated. If not treated thoroughly, the fungi living in the birth canal can infect the fetus during delivery.

3. In order to avoid reinfection after recovery, you should pay attention to the following: wear pure cotton underwear with good breathability; have a special basin and towel for washing the lower body, and do not mix them with other basins and towels; use boiled water (warm water) when washing the lower body, and do not mix boiled water with cold water; pregnant women's underwear must be made of pure cotton, and changed every day, because from the middle to the late pregnancy, the secretions in the lower body will increase, and they should be exposed to the sun after changing.

4. The urine sugar content will increase during pregnancy, and coupled with the special metabolic period, it is very easy to develop diabetes. Once diabetes is combined, the glycogen content in the vagina will be higher, the pregnant woman's own resistance will be reduced, and the resistance to fungi will be further reduced. Therefore, you should also control your diet, increase exercise, and maintain normal blood sugar levels.

The above is an introduction to the effects of vaginitis on the fetus. After understanding it, we know that the impact of vaginitis on the fetus does exist, so female friends must pay special attention to maintaining good living habits during pregnancy, and must pay attention to their own physical hygiene, usually wear comfortable cotton underwear and change it frequently. In addition, when discomfort occurs, do not blindly take medicine, and be sure to consult a doctor in time.
