The harm of missing menstruation after childbirth

Many people often ask, will they continue to have their periods after giving birth, will they experience a series of unpleasant symptoms after giving birth, and will they have irregular menstruation after giving birth. In fact, this kind of doubt is not certain. It depends on your condition after giving birth and your health condition. Generally speaking, some situations may occur during the menstrual period after giving birth. For example, menstruation is delayed or absent. So, what are the reasons for not having menstruation after giving birth?

Reasons for not having menstruation after giving birth

Due to individual differences after giving birth, the recovery of menstruation is different. Some new mothers will not have menstruation after giving birth, which is actually normal. However, if the menstrual cycle remains like this for a long time without improvement after giving birth, it is abnormal. Be sure to consult a gynecologist as there may be safety risks of gynecological diseases. The condition of amenorrhea after childbirth is mainly common in long-term breastfeeding and postpartum hemorrhage, infection-induced Han syndrome; in addition, excessive secretion of hormones in breast milk will inhibit ovulation and cause amenorrhea. Before giving birth, although the concentration of breast milk hormone in pregnant women is high, due to the influence of estrogen, breast milk hormone cannot play its role. After the embryo is delivered, the effect of milk secretion hormones increases due to the sharp drop in estrogen concentration in the body. Generally speaking, breast milk secretion of growth hormone will not respond to pre-pregnancy levels until two weeks after delivery. However, in breastfeeding pregnant women, the secretion of breast milk hormone not only remains higher than before pregnancy, but also increases due to the response of the baby's sucking.

The low estrogen level of breastfeeding women without menstruation can even last for 180 days. Therefore, as long as the mother is breastfeeding, her menstrual period should not come too early. Of course, there are huge differences between different people. In addition, some pregnant women breastfeed for too long, resulting in uterine wall atrophy and amenorrhea. Another major form of amenorrhea occurs in pregnant women with postpartum hemorrhage with shock, severe postpartum infection, or localized intravascular coagulation. This disease can cause amenorrhea, the so-called Han syndrome. This disease can also affect the metabolic function of the thyroid gland, causing symptoms such as weight loss, indigestion, chills, fatigue, genital atrophy, low metabolism and hair loss, which require medical treatment.

What should I do if my period does not come after a normal birth?

Many new mothers who choose natural childbirth are very worried about not having their periods after giving birth. This is mainly because new mothers after a normal birth are affected by the hormone recovery period and breast milk secretion. So what should we do if we encounter the situation of no menstruation after normal delivery? When the secretion of growth hormone in breast milk continues to maintain a high value after giving birth, the so-called amenorrhea after childbirth will occur. The problem of excessively high levels of growth hormone in the blood is generally called "hyperglycemic growth hormoneuria".

The reason why new mothers do not have menstruation during breastfeeding is that breastfeeding will increase the secretion of growth hormone in the blood, which will reduce or stop the metabolism of the sex hormone androgen in the hypothalamus, resulting in no ovulation cycle and no ovulation period. For most people, the first menstrual flow is heavier than usual, but it is restored in the second menstrual period. These are all normal conditions and do not require treatment. And if there is no physical discomfort, there is no need to solve it. Some people will have their periods in early June. If they feel unwell and their sleep and diet are affected, they should go to the hospital for treatment. If you are a breastfeeding mother, the increase in lactogen levels will affect your ovulation period, causing menstrual disorders and increased menstrual flow after weaning. For new mothers who breastfeed their babies, ovulation and menstruation will resume later, and some mothers may not have their period until a year later. It may be due to long-term missed menstruation and endometrial thickening. If the menstrual flow is very heavy and dizziness occurs, you should be alert and go to the hospital for examination and treatment in time.
