Does it hurt when pregnant women measure their pelvis?

Nowadays, after becoming pregnant, many pregnant women will go to the hospital regularly for various examinations in order to understand the development of their children and to achieve the goal of eugenics. When you are three months pregnant, one of the most important things for pregnant women is to go to the hospital to create a medical record. When registering for the card, various tests will also be done, and pelvic measurement is one of them. So, will it hurt when pregnant women have their pelvis measured?

1. Will it hurt when pregnant women have their pelvis measured?

When a woman registers for pregnancy, the doctor will do a comprehensive examination. In addition to blood tests such as liver and kidney function, blood routine, and coagulation tests, the doctor will also measure blood pressure, heart rate, and weight. The most important thing is to measure the pelvic condition of the pregnant woman. Currently, pelvic measurements are mainly performed externally, so there will be no pain or discomfort. The purpose is to see if the pelvis is deformed. If the pelvis is deformed, it will affect normal delivery. It is often recommended that such women have a caesarean section to terminate the pregnancy in the late pregnancy.

2. How do doctors measure the pelvis of pregnant women?

Pelvic measurement is mainly divided into external pelvic measurement and internal pelvic measurement. In recent years, external pelvic measurement has been gradually abandoned due to its little significance. The most important thing is for doctors to perform internal pelvic measurements on parturients through intravaginal examination to assess whether the size of the child is compatible with the pelvis and whether the conditions for normal delivery are met. The intrapelvic measurement process is very simple. It is usually performed in the late stage of pregnancy. With the bladder empty, the pregnant woman lies flat on the examination bed, and the doctor uses the sterilized index and middle fingers to perform intravaginal examination on the patient. This process will be a little uncomfortable, but not very painful, so there is no need to worry. The whole process may only last about 1 minute.

3. Pelvic measurement time

Prenatal pelvic measurement is divided into external pelvic measurement and internal pelvic measurement, and the measurement time is also different.

1. External pelvic measurement time

External pelvic measurement should be done during the first prenatal visit, which is around 12 weeks of pregnancy. During the first prenatal check-up, external pelvic measurements are performed, mainly using a pelvic outlet measuring device to measure the posterior sagittal diameter of the pregnant woman's outlet, in order to indirectly understand the size and shape of the pelvis.

2. Pelvic measurement time

According to regulations, the pelvis should be measured twice. If the examination is done too early, the soft tissue in the pelvis will not be relaxed enough, which will affect the operation and accuracy, and the pelvis will grow accordingly in the later stage. There is no need to do a pelvic examination in the first and second trimesters. The first pelvic measurement is done in late pregnancy at 28-32 weeks; the second is done at 37-38 weeks of pregnancy, when the cervix is also checked for ripeness. In the late pregnancy, pelvic measurements are mainly performed by measuring the diameter between the ischial spines through the vagina using a mid-pelvic measuring device. If the diameter between the ischial spines is too small, it will affect the descent of the fetal head during delivery.
