What is a scarred uterus?

The uterus is particularly important for girls because their menstruation every month after adulthood occurs in the uterus, and after a woman becomes pregnant, the baby must also stay in the uterus. If there is a problem with a woman's uterus, it will have a serious impact on her physical health and future conception. Uterine scar is an abnormal condition of the uterus. So, what is uterine scar?

A scarred uterus refers to a uterus that leaves scars after an injury. It most commonly occurs in mothers who have undergone cesarean section. In addition, women who have undergone gynecological and obstetric surgeries such as myomectomy, uterine perforation or rupture repair, and metroplasty are prone to developing a scarred uterus. Women with a scarred uterus have no characteristics and generally do not require special treatment, but the next pregnancy with a scarred uterus may result in uterine rupture, postpartum hemorrhage, placenta previa, etc.; when pregnant women with a scarred uterus undergo cesarean section, surgical complications such as injury, infection, pelvic adhesions, and poor wound healing increase; because cesarean section is the main cause of a scarred uterus.

Therefore, natural birth is recommended when there is no indication for cesarean section to reduce the occurrence of cesarean section without indication. It is more dangerous for mothers with uterine scar to become pregnant and give birth again than for ordinary mothers. It is recommended to consider pregnancy again 2 years after cesarean section. Because the uterine incision takes a long time to heal after a cesarean section, if you become pregnant when the uterus has not fully healed, the uterus will gradually increase in size and the uterine wall will become thinner as the fetus develops during pregnancy. However, the connective tissue at the cesarean section incision lacks elasticity, and fresh scars can easily rupture in the late pregnancy or during delivery, causing massive abdominal bleeding and threatening life.

How to treat uterine scar

1. Regardless of the type of surgery that results in a scarred uterus, if you want to get pregnant again, you must wait at least 2 years from the previous surgery to reduce the possibility of uterine rupture.

2. Women with uterine scars should go to the hospital for examination before preparing for pregnancy and communicate with the doctor in advance, especially to conduct a detailed examination of the uterus. They can only start preparing for pregnancy with the doctor's permission.

3. Regular prenatal checkups are needed after pregnancy to determine whether the fetus is near the uterine scar, so that the health and safety of the fetus and the mother can be more accurately understood.

4. If you feel uncomfortable during pregnancy, seek medical attention immediately to ensure the health of the fetus and the mother.
