I had a lot of bleeding on the first day after taking the medicine.

In order to reduce the harm to the uterus and vagina, many women choose to terminate the pregnancy by medical abortion in the early stages of pregnancy. The disadvantage of medical abortion is that it can easily cause incomplete miscarriage. The bleeding pattern after taking the medicine will become less and less, and the amount of bleeding is the heaviest on the first day, so don't panic because of heavy bleeding on the first day. The following article introduces the causes and treatment of bleeding after medical abortion. Let’s take a look.

Causes and treatment of bleeding after medical abortion

Bleeding after medical abortion usually lasts 1-3 weeks. The general symptoms are: bleeding less and less every day; if bleeding decreases and then increases, or does not decrease at all, or gradually increases, it is abnormal. Common causes are as follows:

1. Incomplete abortion: The main cause of bleeding after medical abortion, which can generally be determined through gynecological examination and B-ultrasound

2. Infection after medical abortion: If the B-ultrasound determines that there is no residue in the uterus, then intrauterine infection should be considered, because the blood from abortion is a good culture medium for bacteria. If the condition is serious, there will be tenderness in the uterus during gynecological examination, and there will be fever, etc.

3. Poor blood coagulation function: Some people are prone to bruises or bulges after slight contact or clamping. This may be because the person's blood coagulation function is not very good. During medical abortion or surgical abortion, there may be heavy bleeding or prolonged bleeding.

Treatment: Because there are many reasons, it is best to go to the hospital for a detailed examination before making a judgment

How to perform medical abortion

Although medical abortion has many advantages, it also has its limitations and side effects. Therefore, it is not as simple as going to the pharmacy to buy a few APC tablets when you have a cold or fever. In addition, in order to ensure women's health, it is strictly prohibited to sell abortion drugs in general pharmacies. Medical abortion must be performed in medical institutions with conditions.

Can I do a medical abortion at home?

In the past, women of childbearing age have always prayed for a safe and reliable method to stop pregnancy after contraceptive failure. Now there are oral abortion drugs, such as mifepristone and misoprostol, which are effective and very popular. However, if used improperly, serious side effects and complications may occur, so it should not be taken lightly.

Mifepristone, also known as Mifepristone or Ru486, is a new type of anti-progestin drug that can induce abortion and terminate early pregnancy. When used alone, the effectiveness is 65% to 85%, while when used in combination with misoprostol, the success rate (i.e. complete abortion) can be as high as over 95%. It is suitable for pregnant women who have amenorrhea within 49 days and have a positive urine pregnancy test. The shorter the pregnancy period, the better the effect. However, it is contraindicated for pregnant women with asthma, spasmodic bronchitis, angina pectoris, arrhythmia, heart failure, hypertension, glaucoma, liver and kidney dysfunction, ectopic pregnancy, ulcerative colitis, adrenal cortical insufficiency, long-term use of glucocorticoids, and insulin-dependent diabetes.

Generally, after the application of mifepristone and misoprostol, the embryonic sac in the uterine cavity can be discharged in about 2 to 3 days. At this time, there will be more vaginal bleeding, and there may be reactions such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, abdominal pain, etc. The decidual tissue in the uterus often takes about 2 weeks to be slowly discharged, and then the bleeding stops. This is called complete abortion, so pregnant women are required to go to the hospital for a follow-up examination 15 days after medical abortion. If necessary, B-ultrasound examination and urine pregnancy test should be performed to determine the abortion effect. If the woman does not miscarry within one week after taking the medicine, or if vaginal bleeding increases significantly after about 10 days, or if bleeding continues for more than 3 weeks to 1 month, she should go to the hospital for a check-up in time. For those with failed or incomplete miscarriage, artificial abortion or curettage are required.

However, some pregnant women do not fully understand the pros and cons of the drug, which leads to dangerous situations. For example, a pregnant woman took medicine to induce an abortion at home. At first, no embryonic sac was expelled, but on the fourth day, she suddenly had abdominal pain, pale face, and was in a state of shock. The doctor diagnosed it as an ectopic pregnancy. Fortunately, she was rescued in time and was out of danger. Another pregnant woman had a medical abortion in the hospital but was anxious to be discharged. As a result, she suffered heavy bleeding on the way home and had to rush back to the hospital for an emergency surgery to curettage. Another pregnant woman had continuous vaginal bleeding for more than 40 days after the medical abortion. She tried to use menstruation to flush out the residual tissue, but did not have a curettage in time, which also led to heavy bleeding. Although she was rescued after strenuous efforts, she had already developed anemia and pelvic infection.

It needs to be emphasized that many women, especially unmarried women, often have a wrong perception that medical abortion is like menstruation and will not affect their health. As a result, they do not attach importance to taking effective contraceptive measures. Once they find out they are pregnant, they ask for medical abortion. Some do it two or three times a year, which will obviously harm their bodies.

It can be seen from this that medical abortion is not a conventional contraceptive method, but merely a remedial measure after an unexpected pregnancy occurs due to contraceptive failure. Moreover, it must be performed in a hospital with the necessary conditions, under the supervision and guidance of a doctor. Pregnant women must not take medicine to induce abortion at home without permission, otherwise the consequences will be disastrous.
