Do I need to check six hormones to prepare for pregnancy?

The six hormones are relatively important for the human body, because only when these six hormones are normal can women successfully conceive, and there will be no ectopic pregnancy or threatened abortion in the early pregnancy. Of course, not all women need to check the six hormone items. For women with infertility or adverse pregnancy history, it is very necessary to do the six hormone tests!

1. Do I need to check six hormones when preparing for pregnancy?

Six hormone tests are required: those with a history of infertility and adverse pregnancy need to have six hormone tests and progesterone measured.

Situations where six hormone tests are not necessary: Women of childbearing age with regular menstruation, no adverse pregnancy history or special clinical manifestations do not need to have six hormone tests during routine pre-pregnancy checkups.

2. What are the six hormone items?

The six hormones are: serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), prolactin, estradiol (estrogen), progesterone, and testosterone (androgen).

Serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH): Its main function is to promote gonadal maturation and can be used to predict ovulation time and diagnose infertility.

Luteinizing hormone (LH): The main function of prolactin is to promote gonadal maturation.

Estradiol (estrogen): Produced by the ovaries, its main function is to stimulate the development and growth of female accessory organs and the appearance of female characteristics.

Testosterone (androgen): Increased testosterone can cause diseases such as female virilization, female hirsutism, hairy ovary syndrome, and congenital adrenocorticism.

Progesterone: In cases of habitual abortion due to luteal insufficiency, the measurement of progesterone is of diagnostic significance. By measuring the plasma progesterone content, we can understand the function of the corpus luteum and whether the ovary has ovulated. The progesterone level is low during the follicular phase and increases after ovulation. If the level continues to increase during ovulation, pregnancy may occur.

3. When should we check the six hormone levels?

Generally speaking, if you want to understand the basic status of various hormones, you need to draw blood on the 2nd to 4th day of menstruation (see menstrual blood as the first day). To test corpus luteum function, blood can be drawn to check progesterone levels on the 22nd to 24th day of menstruation.
