Does a fetal heart rate monitor emit radiation?

Anyone who has some understanding of fetal heart monitoring should know that fetal heart monitoring mainly uses the principle of radio waves to detect the fetal heart rate of the baby in the pregnant woman's belly. Radio waves contain a certain amount of radiation to a large extent, so many parents are worried that the radiation from the fetal heart rate monitor used in fetal heart rate monitoring will affect the health of the baby in the belly. So does the fetal heart rate monitor really emit radiation?

Does a fetal heart rate monitor emit radiation?

Fetal heart rate monitoring is also a type of ultrasound examination, but it is different from B-ultrasound examination and its frequency is lower. Don't worry that fetal heart monitoring will affect the fetus. When using a fetal heart monitor to measure fetal heart sounds, pregnant women need to pay attention to:

1. Pregnant women should be monitored at home in a supine position. The doctor should perform Doppler diagnosis or fetal heart auscultation for the pregnant women as in the hospital. The fetal heart monitor probe should be placed near the position where the doctor heard the fetal heart during the examination to find the fetal heart.

2. The fetal heart rate is like the ticking sound of a clock, and the speed is relatively fast. Each monitoring session is calculated in 1 minute, and the normal rate is 120-160 times per minute. Too fast or too slow is abnormal. In particular, a slow rate indicates that the fetus is severely hypoxic and the pregnant woman needs to be sent to the hospital for treatment immediately.

3. Tip: Do not mistake the pulsation sound of the mother's abdominal arteries for the fetal heartbeat. If it is difficult to distinguish, you can feel the mother's pulse with your hand while listening to the fetal heartbeat. If the sound you hear is consistent with the pulse, it is the pulsation sound of the mother's blood vessels.

4. Several possible monitoring obstacles when using a fetal heart rate monitor: Please check whether the battery needs to be replaced, whether the switch is turned on, whether the volume is appropriate, whether the plug is properly plugged in, and whether coupling agent, water or oil is applied to the probe.

Can I do fetal heart rate monitoring at home?

Fetal heart rate monitoring can be done at home. There are currently three types of instruments for fetal heart monitoring at home: stethoscope, fetal heart monitor, and fetal talker.

(1) Stethoscopes are very common and inexpensive, but they require a high level of skill to use to locate the fetal heart rate and the sound is relatively small, making it difficult for most people to hear.

(2) Both fetal heart rate monitors and fetal talk monitors use Doppler auscultation technology. Fetal heart rate monitors can be used to listen to the fetal heart rate, and some can display the fetal heart rate through LED or LCD screens.

(3) The fetal talker is a smart device that can basically meet the standards for monitoring the fetal heart rate at home. It is used to listen to and record fetal sounds, count heart rates and fetal movements, draw monitoring curves, and allow doctors to listen to the fetal heart rate remotely. It needs to be connected to a mobile phone application and is suitable for pregnant women with Apple and Android phones.
