What to do if your vagina is dry and itchy

Vulvar dryness and itching is a very common gynecological problem. There are many reasons for the formation of vulvar dryness and itching, and they are not necessarily caused by infection. Pay attention to maintaining hygienic habits, wash your genitals frequently, and avoid wearing synthetic underwear that can easily irritate the skin. If the dryness and itching of the genitals are severe, it is best to go to the hospital for examination to find out the cause of the symptoms and then carry out appropriate treatment based on the corresponding cause.

Symptoms of vaginal dryness and itching

The itching is mostly located in the clitoris and labia minora. It can also affect the labia majora, perineum and even the perianal area. It is often paroxysmal, but can also be continuous, usually aggravated at night. Unexplained vulvar itching usually only occurs in women of childbearing age or postmenopausal women, often affecting the entire vulva, but may also be limited to a certain part or one side of the vulva. Although the itching is very severe and even unbearable, the local skin and mucous membranes appear normal, or there are only scratches due to excessive scratching.

Local causes of vaginal dryness and itching

(I) Special infections: candidal vaginitis and recurrent vulvar pruritus

Trichomonas vaginitis is the most common cause of vulvar itching. Lice and scabies can also cause itching. The itching around the anus and vulva of young girls caused by enterobiasis usually only occurs at night.

(ii) Chronic vulvar dystrophy is characterized by severe itching, accompanied by whitening of the vulvar skin.

(III) Drug allergy or chemical irritation: Soap, condoms, Sanisol, mercurochrome, etc. may cause contact dermatitis due to direct irritation or allergy, resulting in itching symptoms.

(IV) Bad hygiene habits: Not paying attention to the local cleanliness of the vulva, sebum, sweat, menstruation, vaginal secretions, and even urine and feces soaking, long-term stimulation of the vulva can cause itching: using rubber or plastic menstrual belts during menstruation, and wearing non-breathable chemical fiber underwear at other times can induce itching due to the accumulation of damp heat. It should be noted that when cleaning the vulva every day, it is more appropriate to use a female care solution with a weak acid formula of Ph4.

(V) Other skin lesions, abrasions, common warts, herpes, eczema, and tumors can all cause vulvar itching.

(6) Sexual allergy: This is an allergic reaction that occurs during sexual intercourse. They are allergy to semen, condom allergy, and friction allergy.

Solutions for vaginal dryness and itching

1. Eat more coarse grains, such as oats, brown rice, corn, pumpkin, whole wheat bread, etc., which can supplement B vitamins and strengthen the skin. Red dates, wolfberries, and various nuts have the effect of nourishing blood, nourishing yin, and nourishing the skin, so you can eat more of them appropriately. Spicy food will damage yin fluid and aggravate dry skin; fishy and wind-inducing foods such as lamb and seafood will increase skin itching, so it is recommended to eat less or not eat them.

2. Wear loose cotton or silk clothes to avoid friction between chemical fiber clothing and skin, and avoid irritation to the skin caused by static electricity from clothes. It is recommended to wash newly bought underwear before wearing to prevent skin allergies caused by chemical residues in the clothing manufacturing process.

3. Ensure sleep, relax and exercise moderately.

4. Strengthen skin touch. Touching a baby can help the baby stabilize his emotions and develop healthily. The same goes for the skin, which needs our care to be healthy. Dryness, itching, stinging and other phenomena are all the skin's protest to us. Although scratching with sharp nails can temporarily relieve the problem, it will cause greater damage to the skin, thus creating a vicious cycle and causing the itching to become more and more severe. The method of touch is: apply moisturizing lotion or essential oil all over your body before going to bed every night, and gently massage the skin all over your body with warm palms and fingertips. For areas with severe itching, increase the strength appropriately.

5. Actively treat medical diseases such as diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, etc. that can cause or aggravate skin itching.
