The main reasons why women do not have menstruation for a long time are as follows:

1. Pituitary causes: called pituitary amenorrhea. The pituitary gland is located below the brain. It is very small in size, but it controls the endocrine organs of the whole body. When the pituitary function changes, the ovarian function decreases. Common pituitary diseases are tumors and hypopituitarism.

2. Central nervous system reasons: The central nervous system includes the brain and hypothalamus, which control the activities of the pituitary gland and indirectly control ovarian function. When the central nervous system is stimulated, changes in ovarian function cause amenorrhea. Amenorrhea can occur suddenly when you suffer from a broken heart, the loss of a loved one, or failure at work. Hypothalamic tumors can also cause amenorrhea.

3. Ovarian causes: also known as ovarian amenorrhea. Normal menstruation occurs. The reason why women do not have their periods is that the hormones secreted by the ovaries act on the endometrium, causing it to change, and then fall off and bleed. If the ovaries cannot secrete hormones, the endometrium will not change and menstruation will stop naturally, such as congenital ovarian dysplasia, premature ovarian failure, etc. Amenorrhea caused by this reason is often accompanied by degeneration of female characteristics, such as equalization of breasts.

4. Uterine reasons: also called uterine amenorrhea. The reason why women do not have menstruation is amenorrhea caused by problems with the uterus, such as congenital absence of the uterus, uterine hypoplasia, or childhood diseases involving the endometrium, causing adhesions or scars. Although the ovaries function well and female characteristics develop normally, there is no menstruation. If a disease occurs after the onset of menarche, such as endometrial tuberculosis, endometrial schistosomiasis, endometrial suppuration, or when the basal layer of the endometrium is scraped off during curettage, the patient will not be able to respond to ovarian hormones and will develop secondary amenorrhea.
