Why does menstrual blood smell bad?

Why does menstrual blood smell bad?

When women have their period, their bodies change dramatically, which not only affects people's lives but also their emotions. Many women have inflammation in their bodies, and inflammation will directly affect the characteristics of menstrual blood. Some women will find that their menstrual blood smells strange or even a little fishy when they are menstruating. So what is the specific reason why women's menstrual blood smells bad when they are menstruating?

1. Inflammation

Under normal circumstances, menstruation should have no other odor except the smell of blood. If any other odor is emitted, it means there is inflammation. If the menstrual blood is black and has an odor, such as a rotten smell or the smell of rotten eggs, it is most likely caused by cervicitis or endometrial inflammation. The main cause of inflammation is the infection of menstrual blood, endometrial and sebaceous gland secretions and sweat. This is closely related to women's daily living habits and hygiene conditions.

2. Change sanitary napkins frequently

When using sanitary napkins, remember to change them every two hours and wash your hands before removing them for use. Be careful when using medicated sanitary napkins to prevent allergies. Sanitary napkins should be placed in a dry and ventilated place, preferably not in the bathroom, because the air is cold and humid, which can easily breed mold.

3. Wash your genitals and keep them clean

During menstruation, the discharge of menstrual blood will stick to the genitals, so local cleaning is needed frequently. Clean the genitals with clean water or a wet towel at least twice a day, and the situation will improve. In addition, try not to take a bath during menstruation; using a shower can reduce infection.

4. Dress appropriately and keep your clothes breathable

Never wear tight clothes during your menstrual period. It is wrong to wear airtight clothes just to look good or to highlight your figure. Doing so will only increase sweat penetration and sweat odor. The editor recommends wearing cotton underwear and loose clothes during menstruation to ensure ventilation.
