How to treat cervical warts? 6 major therapies to understand!

If cervical warts occur, they are usually accompanied by some gynecological inflammations, such as cervical erosion, frequent vaginal bleeding, inexplicable vaginal secretions, and some people even have a noticeable odor. Therefore, cervical warts are very harmful and must be actively treated with scientific methods. Do not use drugs indiscriminately.

1. Cryotherapy

It is a commonly used treatment method in dermatology. It uses liquid nitrogen or carbon dioxide dry ice to freeze skin lesions, causing local edema and necrosis of the skin lesions to achieve the purpose of treatment. Genital warts are caused by infection with the genital warts virus, leading to benign proliferation of the skin and mucous membranes. It has a large number of small blood vessels that proliferate rapidly. The freezing method can be used to freeze the inside of genital warts, causing severe local edema of the tissue, thereby destroying the warts. The biggest advantage of cryosurgery is that it leaves no local marks and the cure rate is about 70%. It can be used by spraying or direct contact, and is suitable for flat and smaller warts. Generally freeze it once a week, for 2 to 3 times in a row.

2. Laser treatment

It is a commonly used method for treating genital warts in dermatology and venereology. Its characteristic is that it works quickly and the warts can fall off at the time of treatment. The most commonly used method is carbon dioxide laser, which burns the warts and usually removes them in one treatment. However, because the laser beam is too concentrated, laser treatment is only suitable for genital warts that are not too large. If the warts are large, laser treatment will easily lead to recurrence.

3. Microwave therapy

It is a treatment method that emerged after entering the 1990s. Its principle is to use the high-frequency vibration of microwaves to evaporate the moisture inside the wart, causing it to necrotize and fall off. The characteristics of microwave treatment are that the warts are completely destroyed and are not prone to recurrence, but the wound recovers slowly and is prone to secondary infection. Therefore, microwave therapy is particularly suitable for treating large, isolated, and scattered warts. At the same time, it should be kept away from the frenulum of the foreskin to prevent damage to the frenulum and affect male sexual function.

4. Electrocautery

It is an older treatment method. In the past, dermatologists often used high-frequency electric knives or electric soldering irons to burn common warts, moles, and other skin growths. Its characteristics are simple operation and quick effect. High-frequency electric knife can directly remove and dry warts, and the treatment is more thorough. However, the healing of the ulcer surface caused by electric cauterization is slow. In summary, electrocautery therapy can be used to treat any genital warts, but it requires high technical skills from the operator, and excessive or insufficient cautery can be harmful. At the same time, pay attention to aseptic operation to prevent infection.

5. Surgical treatment

Surgical removal of genital warts is generally not recommended because genital warts are prone to recurrence after surgical treatment, resulting in treatment failure. However, surgical removal may be considered for larger pedunculated warts. For some patients, genital warts grow too quickly or are as big as cauliflower, making other treatments very difficult, so surgical treatment may be considered. To prevent recurrence, other treatments are recommended after surgery.

6. Photodynamic therapy

Aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PTD): ALA-PDT uses the principle that ALA in hemoglobin synthesis produces photosensitive substances such as protoporphyrin (Pp) after a series of enzymatic reactions. A large amount of exogenous ALA is given, and tumor cells or vigorously growing cells selectively absorb ALA and convert it into endogenous Pp in the cells. The latter, under the irradiation of red light of a specific wavelength, causes the cells to produce active single peptide oxygen, thereby killing tumor cells or vigorously growing cells, while having no effect on normal cells. The wart clearance rate was 95%, and the total recurrence rate was 5%. The treatment had clear efficacy and good patient tolerance. Many researchers abroad have also used local ALA-PDT to treat patients with genital CA and achieved satisfactory results without affecting the surrounding skin and mucous membranes. This proves that ALA-PDT can selectively kill the epidermal cells of CA, ultimately achieving the purpose of removing warts while preventing the occurrence of cervical cancer.
