I have been bleeding slightly after having the IUD inserted. What should I do?

Here I would like to remind all female friends that you need to be cautious when choosing to have an IUD inserted, because it is placing a new object in the female body. This ring is a foreign body to women, so there may be an immune rejection reaction, and the body needs time to adapt. Some women will experience small amounts of bleeding for a long time after having an IUD inserted. How should this be solved?

1. What to do if bleeding occurs after IUD insertion

Generally speaking, in the early stages of IUD insertion, some women will experience varying degrees of increase in menstrual volume, prolonged menstrual periods, or irregular spotting. This is mainly caused by friction between the contraceptive ring and the endometrium when the endometrium is shed, causing damage to the endometrium. It will generally improve naturally. If the amount of bleeding is heavy and lasts for a long time, it may be because the uterus has not fully adapted to the contraceptive ring, or because the patient went to a small clinic for an IUD insertion and contracted a gynecological disease. At this time, you need to go to the hospital for further examination. In order to diagnose the disease and provide targeted treatment.

1. During the period of vaginal bleeding after IUD insertion, pay attention to rest and take some medicine in moderation. Eat more iron-containing foods, such as pork liver, fruits, peanuts, walnuts, etc. After these treatments, if the bleeding does not stop or the above symptoms do not improve after 3-6 months, you can consider changing or removing the IUD and using other methods of contraception. If the changes in your menstrual cycle are obvious, you should go to the hospital for a check-up.

2. Get adequate rest and avoid excessive physical labor. Generally, you should rest for 1-2 days after the ring is placed, and avoid heavy physical labor within a week to avoid the ring falling off and bleeding.

3. Pay attention to hygiene and avoid infection. After the IUD is inserted, the vulva should be washed every day to keep it clean. Do not take a bath in a basin within 2 weeks and do not have sexual intercourse within 2 weeks to avoid infection.

4. Pay attention to vaginal bleeding and the shedding of the ring. If you find that the vaginal bleeding is heavy, more than twice the normal menstrual blood volume or the bleeding time is longer, and the changes in the menstrual cycle are obvious, you should go to the hospital for examination. During the first 3 months, you should also pay attention to whether the ring falls off.

5. Regular check-ups. Generally, the first check-up after the placement of the ring is after the first menstruation, the second check-up is within 3-6 months after the placement of the ring, and the third check-up is 12 months after the placement of the ring, and then check-ups are conducted once a year.

2. Diet therapy for bleeding after IUD insertion

1. If the patient has vaginal bleeding, or red discharge, increased menstrual volume, red color with foul odor, prolonged menstruation, lower abdominal pain, heavy vaginal discharge, heavy yellow color, slightly red tongue, yellow and greasy tongue coating, and thin pulse. This condition belongs to the damp-heat type in the lower abdomen, and the treatment needs to clear away the dampness and heat. You can use 12 grams each of Herba Artemisiae Scopariae and Artemisia Capillaris, 20 grams each of Cuttlebone and Chinese Toon Root Bark, 15 grams each of Pulsatilla, Cyperus rotundus, Cockscomb, Taraxacum, and Patrinia scabra, and 10 grams each of Poria and stir-fried Phellodendron chinense, decocted in water and taken orally.

2. If the patient has vaginal bleeding, or menstruation is not smooth, the color is purple with clots, the amount is large, or it is difficult to stop, the lower abdomen and lumbar spine are falling, the tongue is dark, the tongue coating is thin white, and the pulse is stringy. This condition belongs to the type of qi stagnation and blood stasis, and the treatment should be to regulate qi and promote blood circulation. You can choose 5 grams each of angelica, Chuanxiong, 8 grams each of peach kernel and Cyperus rotundus, 4 grams of roasted ginger, 12 grams of motherwort, 10 grams each of Puhuang and Rubia cordifolia, decocted in water and taken orally.

3. If the patient has heavy vaginal bleeding, or long menstrual period, light color, thin texture, shortness of breath, lack of strength, dull complexion, pale and tender tongue with teeth marks, thin white fur, and thin pulse. This condition belongs to the spleen deficiency type, and the treatment needs to strengthen the spleen and retain blood. You can choose to use Codonopsis pilosula 15 grams, raw Astragalus 12 grams, Atractylodes macrocephala, donkey-hide gelatin (melted), Schizonepeta charcoal 10 grams each, Citrus aurantium 8 grams, Cimicifuga charcoal, roasted Licorice root 6 grams each, Bupleurum 5 grams, Cuttlebone, Agrimoniae 20 grams each decocted in water for oral administration.

3. What is bleeding during intercourse after IUD insertion?

Currently, most women who have given birth will use IUDs for contraception, which is convenient and safe. It takes some time to have sex after the IUD is inserted. It is best to have sex three weeks after the insertion. If you are in a hurry, you should wait at least a week. This will minimize the harm to both parties, mainly to avoid infection.

Women who use IUDs for contraception sometimes experience bleeding during intercourse. This is because the IUD is a foreign body in the uterine cavity, and its mechanical pressure can cause local damage, necrosis, and ulcers of the endometrium, and there is a possibility of bleeding. In this case, the stimulation of sexual intercourse will inevitably cause bleeding. However, generally after a period of time, the bleeding will ease or disappear after the body adapts to the contraceptive ring.
