What is non-gonococcal urethritis in women?

If a female friend develops non-gonococcal urethritis, it will have a great impact on the health of her reproductive organs. Because if it is not treated in time, it is easy to develop other diseases. For the disease of non-gonococcal urethritis, everyone should know what its symptoms are.

Nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) refers to a sexually transmitted disease in which there are clinical symptoms of urethritis but no gonococci can be found in urethral secretion smear or culture. It is a sexually transmitted disease whose pathogen is not clearly identified. Because when women suffer from this disease, they not only have inflammation of the urethra, but also inflammation of the reproductive tract such as cervicitis. The patient first feels discomfort in the vulva, followed by itching and pain, or a burning sensation. At the same time, the skin and mucous membranes of the vulva (including the labia majora, minora, and clitoris) may experience varying degrees of swelling and congestion. In severe cases, erosions, ulcers, or large areas of eczema may form, accompanied by painful urination and pain during sexual intercourse. In daily life, people do not pay attention to personal hygiene and the cleaning of the vulva, which allows bacteria to enter the uterine cavity and cause non-gonococcal urethritis. In women, non-gonococcal urethritis usually spreads from the cervix to other parts of the body.

(1) Mucopurulent cervicitis is characterized by increased vaginal discharge, no swelling or erosion of the cervix, but the clinical symptoms are not obvious.

(2) Urethritis: Burning sensation in the urethra or frequent urination. Examination of the urethral opening shows congestion, slight redness, or normal appearance. Squeezing the urethra reveals secretions. Many patients do not have any symptoms.

(3) Combined pelvic inflammatory disease including salpingitis and endometritis. This disease can cause extra-pregnancy or infertility.

In the early stage of the disease, there are very few soft and tiny pink papules. As the disease progresses, they will become more and larger, and the papules will merge or overlap with each other. The surface looks very uneven, like a wart. Because some areas are very humid and hot and have chronic irritation, the warts will grow rapidly and eventually become shapes of different sizes, such as nipple-shaped, cauliflower-shaped, cockscomb or mushroom-shaped. These warts are very soft and will bleed easily when touched.
