Why do I have abdominal distension and pain after my period?

Women have their periods every month, and often experience many annoying symptoms during their periods. Many women experience lower abdominal pain before, during, and even after their periods. This phenomenon is very common in daily life, but I believe that many female friends do not know the specific reasons for this situation. Let me share with you the reasons for abdominal distension and pain after menstruation.

1. Cervical stenosis mainly causes obstruction of menstrual outflow, causing dysmenorrhea.

2. Uterine hypoplasia. Poor uterine development is prone to abnormal blood supply, causing uterine ischemia and hypoxia, leading to dysmenorrhea.

3. Abnormal position of the uterus. If a woman's uterus is extremely retroflexed or anteflexed, it may affect the smooth flow of menstrual blood and cause dysmenorrhea.

4. Psychological and neurological factors: some women are overly sensitive to pain.

5. Genetic factors: a daughter’s dysmenorrhea is related to her mother’s dysmenorrhea.

6. Endocrine factors: Abdominal pain during menstruation is related to the increase of progesterone in the luteal phase.

7. Gynecological diseases, such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, adenomyosis, uterine fibroids, etc.

It is currently believed that increased levels of prostaglandins in the endometrium and blood are the main cause of dysmenorrhea. Because a large amount of prostaglandins have an excitatory effect on the uterus, they can cause strong contractions of the uterine muscles, uterine ischemia and hypoxia, and produce more severe pain, thus causing dysmenorrhea.

This type of abdominal pain mostly occurs during women's menstrual period or before and after menstruation. Patients will periodically experience lower abdominal distension, cold pain, burning pain, tingling, dull pain, heaviness, colic, spasmodic pain, and tearing pain. The pain extends to the sacrum, lumbar back, and even to the thighs and feet. It is often accompanied by systemic symptoms: breast tenderness, anal distension, chest tightness and irritability, etc.

Faced with this kind of situation, female friends can also take some appropriate measures to help relieve the pain. Here the editor recommends that you use hot compress method, because hot compress method is more convenient and effective quickly. When it hurts, you can just apply a hot water bottle or a hot towel to the affected area.
