Before puberty, the ovaries secrete very little estrogen, and the vaginal mucosa is thin, with few wrinkles and low acidity, so the resistance is poor. The hymen has a protective function to block bacteria from invading the vagina. After puberty, with the development of the ovaries, the estrogen in the body increases, the vaginal resistance is strengthened, and the hymen gradually loses its function.
