How to care for red and swollen caesarean section wound

Generally speaking, cesarean section is the method of childbirth chosen by most pregnant women. However, after a cesarean section, many women's abdomens will have redness and swelling at the cesarean section wound. Therefore, women who have undergone a cesarean section need to understand in advance how to care for the redness and swelling of the cesarean section wound.

The wound after cesarean delivery is larger and the chance of infection is relatively higher. The thicker the subcutaneous fat, the greater the chance of wound infection. Therefore, fatter mothers must pay more attention to the care of postpartum wounds. In addition, some people's scars will grow larger and larger due to their physical constitution, which not only affects their appearance but also causes itching, which is very difficult to deal with. If you have this physical constitution, you should use silicone sheets shortly after the operation to reduce the occurrence of keloid.

Do not get the wound wet or dirty before it heals. If it gets wet, it must be wiped dry immediately and betadine applied. After the operation, the doctor will apply cosmetic glue on the wound and then cover it with gauze. The gauze can be removed after 4 days, or immediately if it is damp. The cosmetic glue should be torn off after about a week and replaced with ventilation paper tape.

After showering, you can tear off all the tape on the wound, wipe the wound dry (no need to apply medicine), and then stick 2 pieces of 3M breathable paper tape, 2.5 cm wide, along the wound.

The breathable paper tape must be applied flat and close to the wound to compress the scar to prevent it from becoming wider and thicker. Change it every 3 to 4 days. It can come into contact with water. After contact with water, use a dry towel to dry the surface. Apply one layer after one month and continue for 3 to 6 months. If you experience allergic reactions such as rash, redness, or skin breakage when using breathable paper tape, do not use it temporarily and continue using it after the symptoms improve. For those with flatter wounds, breathable paper tape can be used. For pregnant women who are prone to allergies or scars, silicone can be used as instructed by the doctor.

Gently massage the wound with your fingers for 3 to 5 minutes every day to reduce scarring. Avoid exposing the wound to direct sunlight, which will darken the scar. If there are scabs, do not scratch them with your hands, let them fall off naturally.

If the abdominal wound is red, swollen, burning, severe painful, or has exudate, please return to the hospital for treatment. Avoid pulling the wound and do postpartum exercises after one month.
