Does ovulation-stimulating drugs work to give birth to twins?

It is a very lucky thing for a woman to give birth to twins, but as we all know, the chance of having twins is very small, so many people try to use medical methods to fulfill their wish of having twins. Many people choose to take ovulation-stimulating drugs. Does this really work? Let’s talk about it in detail below.

Taking ovulation-inducing drugs without authorization is a waste of youth

Experts point out that taking ovulation-stimulating drugs without authorization is a waste of youth. The lifespan of the ovaries is innate. At birth, the number of follicles in a woman's ovaries is determined, ranging from hundreds of thousands to millions. Not all of these 40,000 follicles are useful. In each menstrual cycle, several primordial follicles develop and prepare to grow into mature follicles. But in the end, only one follicle will be able to mature, secrete estrogen, and release an egg. The other follicles that developed together are inhibited and become atretic follicles, losing their function. After all the follicles are used up, the ovaries will no longer secrete estrogen and the ovarian function will gradually fail. Since several primordial follicles are "wasted" every time ovulation occurs, 40,000 follicles can actually only last for a few decades. This is also the reason why most women enter menopause and then go through menopause in their forties or fifties.

Want twins: Be careful not to lose your fertility

Under normal circumstances, in each ovulation cycle, only one egg cell can be fertilized and develop into an embryo and a fetus; there is a small probability that the fertilized egg will split into 2 to 3 embryos and become identical twins (or triplets). Since these fetuses all come from the same fertilized egg, their genetic traits are exactly the same. In addition to the splitting of a fertilized egg, women occasionally release 2 eggs in one ovulation cycle.

According to the above introduction, we can know that taking ovulation-stimulating drugs to have twins can only increase the chance of having twins, but it does not mean that as long as you take ovulation-stimulating drugs, you can guarantee the birth of twins. Moreover, taking too many ovulation-stimulating drugs is not good for a woman's body, so it is better not to take them as much as possible.
