What causes nipple discharge?

Women are prone to diseases, such as vaginitis, endometritis, and mastitis, which are common to women. These diseases pose a great threat to women's health, and women must improve their condition in time after suffering from them, otherwise it is easy to cause other physical problems. What's the matter with Mina's nipple secretions? Many women are not clear about this issue. Let's introduce it in detail below.

What causes nipple discharge?

1. Breast causes include trauma, inflammation, degenerative lesions, proliferative lesions and benign and malignant tumors. The most common ones are intraductal papilloma, fibrocystic fibrosis, duct ectasia and breast cancer. In addition, it can also be seen in large duct granuloma, fibroadenoma, cystosarcoma phyllodes, breast tuberculosis, etc., but the incidence is relatively low. Generally speaking, if there is discharge from multiple nipples on both sides at the same time, it is most likely caused by fibrocystic breast disease.

2. Nipple discharge is caused by the degeneration, necrosis and shedding of the ductal epithelium, which accumulates in the duct, stimulating the duct to secrete serous, milky or other fluids and causing retention. The more common diseases are: intraductal papilloma, fibrocystic fibrosis, duct ectasia, cancer, inflammation, etc.

The most common symptom of nipple discharge is: intraductal papilloma, which is more common in middle-aged people aged 40 to 50. The tumor is mostly located in the larger lactiferous duct below the areola. It can be a single tumor or involve several large ducts at the same time. The tumor is composed of many small branched papillary neoplasms, which look like small bayberries, have pedicles and are connected to the walls of the affected dilated ducts. Its main clinical manifestations are:

① The nipple discharges old blood intermittently, a few of which are brown or yellow serous.

② About 1/3 of patients can feel a lump in the areola area, which is round, soft, smooth, movable, and less than 1 cm in diameter.

③ Selective mammary ductography showed round or oval filling defects the size of sand grains in the 1st or 2nd grade ducts, dilation of the proximal ducts, and no complete interruption of the lumen.

④ Tumor cells can be seen in the discharge cytology and tumor aspiration cytology examination.

By understanding what causes nipple secretions, women should make timely improvements when this happens. However, for women during breastfeeding, if this happens, they must pay attention to the treatment method, otherwise it will affect both themselves and the baby, so this is something to pay attention to.
