Can the "eye protection mode" of mobile phones really protect your eyes?

As the public becomes more and more dependent on electronic products such as mobile phones and computers, the degree of damage to the eyes has attracted more and more attention. Various manufacturers have also launched "eye protection mode" in electronic products. Some people think it is very beneficial, while others think it is just a cover-up. So, can the eye protection mode protect the eyes?

The main principle of eye protection mode

When the eye protection mode is turned on for most mobile phones, the screen becomes yellowish in tone. The working principle is mainly to adjust the color temperature and brightness of the screen, adjust the screen spectrum to a warm yellowish color, and reduce the blue light emitted by the screen.

Blue light is so harmful because it can penetrate the lens of the eye to reach the retina, causing photochemical damage to the retina, directly or indirectly causing damage to the cells in the macular area, and increasing the risk of macular degeneration.

Zhu Lina, director of Tianjin University Aier Eye Hospital, said that the eye protection mode can only reduce some blue light entering the eyes, and has limited protective effect on vision, let alone preventing the occurrence of myopia. Long-term close-range use of the eyes will still cause visual fatigue and a series of eye problems. If you want to truly protect your eyes, you still need to have good eye habits.

The correct way to use your eyes

1. Reasonably control the time of using electronic products

Reduce the continuous time of close-range eye use. After using electronic products for 30 minutes, look into the distance for 5-10 minutes. Maintain a regular work and rest schedule and do not stay up late using mobile phones, computers and other electronic products.

2. Keep the lighting adequate

When reading or using electronic products, ensure that there is sufficient ambient light and avoid using your eyes in dim light.

3. Pay attention to eye hygiene and eye posture

Do not rub your eyes frequently with your hands to prevent bacteria from entering, and do not lie on your side or stomach when using your eyes.
