Drinking water makes you fat, and the culprit for irregular menstruation is actually this! ——Ten misconceptions about polycystic ovary syndrome (Part 2)

6. This disease is just irregular menstruation and difficulty in fertility. It doesn’t matter. I don’t care about these two things!

Wrong! Very wrong! Because PCOS is much more than that!

In addition to its impact on reproduction (irregular menstruation, fertility problems, etc.), it also has adverse effects on metabolism such as blood sugar and blood lipids, and ultimately causes obesity, diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease and other diseases.

Due to the relative excess of estrogen caused by long-term anovulation, the incidence of tumors such as endometrial cancer and breast cancer increases.

Many people also suffer from psychological problems such as anxiety and depression due to poor control of polycystic ovary syndrome.

Therefore, for a lifetime of health, the polycystic problem should not be underestimated!

7. Doctor, I only eat two meals a day and work so hard, but why can’t I lose weight?

Weight is really a permanent pain in the hearts of countless beauty-loving women. About half of polycystic patients face the "cruel" reality of obesity. Some of these hateful fats are of course closely related to the "lazy and gluttonous" lifestyle, but another part must be due to problems with your body's metabolism, which is why "drinking cold water will make you fat." "Weight control" is a very important part of polycystic treatment, and losing weight is a science.

On the one hand, diet control should be scientific. Methods such as eating one less meal a day, fruit weight loss, eating only vegetables and no meat are extremely unscientific, not to mention the "diet pills" that are praised on Taobao, or the "magic belly band" tied around the waist that can make you lose weight while lying down...

Do you know why there are so many things that are just a waste of money? It’s because of laziness! People always want to lose weight without any effort.

The dietary principles are actually very simple: on the premise of meeting the body's daily needs and balanced nutrition, as long as the calories consumed are lower than the calories consumed, you can achieve weight loss results.

In fact, we often overlook one thing: the excessive calories we consume do not come from "hunger" but from greed!

A lot of calories come from "delicacies" other than the three meals - cold drinks, beverages, snacks, cakes... You should know that the fat in a cup of milk tea is equivalent to 6 bags of potato chips, and its calories are equivalent to 3 cans of Coke (what are you waiting for, put down the milk tea in your hand!).

The seasonings that make the ingredients more delicious are actually one of the culprits, such as sugar, oil, and salt. The calories of the same chicken leg after frying or braising must be much greater than that of steaming.

On the other hand, if you want to speed up metabolism and reduce body fat, proper exercise is essential. The "exercise" mentioned here is mainly aerobic exercise, and you should insist on moderate intensity exercise for more than 150 minutes per week, such as jogging, cycling, swimming, etc. So what heart rate or intensity should be reached during exercise to effectively lose weight? Here is a simple method: maximum heart rate = 220-your age, and our target heart rate is 60% to 80% of the maximum heart rate value.

8. What? This disease requires birth control pills? My daughter is only in the third grade of junior high school. Are you kidding me?

Sorry, I wasn't wrong.

First of all, you have to understand: although this is a "contraceptive pill", its functions are far more than just "contraception". Lowering androgen, regulating menstruation, preventing tumors, treating dysmenorrhea, etc. are all its specialties.

Secondly, the age of the contraceptive pill can be as low as 12 or 13 years old for girls experiencing their menarche, and it will not affect development, so parents can rest assured.

In fact, contraceptives are very commonly used in the treatment of polycystic patients because they have incomparable advantages in lowering androgen and regulating the menstrual cycle. If the patient happens to have a need for contraception at the same time, it is the first choice for "killing three birds with one stone".

Are you still worried about the hormone content of birth control pills? Will it make you fat? Will it affect your fertility? Will it cause tumors?

In fact, there is no need to worry. The hormone components contained in short-acting oral contraceptives are not the glucocorticoids that may cause obvious obesity or even femoral head necrosis as everyone thinks, but low-dose sex hormones that can be taken safely for a long time. Just think about it, contraceptives are for normal women and can be taken safely for 10 or 20 years. Why are there so many concerns about using them to treat diseases?

To summarize again: Today's short-acting contraceptives will not make people fat, will not affect fertility (strictly speaking, they will improve fertility), and can also reduce the incidence of many malignant tumors.

9. I don’t have diabetes, so why do I have to check my blood sugar all the time and take the same medicines as diabetics?

According to statistics, more than half of PCOS patients have insulin resistance, and the incidence is even higher in obese patients. You should know that insulin resistance is a warning signal sent by the body, indicating that there is a problem with the ability to utilize sugar. If no intervention is taken, it will develop into diabetes and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Therefore, checking blood sugar and insulin is a "homework" that polycystic patients need to complete regularly, and timely intervention is necessary if the "grades" are not satisfactory.

As for "metformin" which is often prescribed by doctors, it does not lower normal blood sugar levels, nor does it cause "hypoglycemia". It only increases the body's sensitivity to insulin, allowing it to play its due role and keeping you away from diabetes as much as possible.

10. Doctor, I’m not young anymore, please help me get pregnant first, and then I can treat my illness after the baby is born!

Haven't you heard that "sharpening the knife does not delay the chopping of wood"? If you rush to get pregnant without properly controlling your polycystic ovary syndrome, the risks are far greater than you think:

It is not easy to get pregnant, and if you get pregnant, you are more likely to have miscarriage. You are more likely to have diabetes, high blood pressure, and premature birth during pregnancy. Even your child will be more likely to get sick in the future. Isn't this "harming others and yourself"?

In this case, why can't you cooperate with the doctor and wait until the disease is under control before preparing for pregnancy? Please remember: "Pregnancy" is not the goal of treating the disease, but "keeping you and your child healthy" is.
