Hootsuite: Global Digital Report July 2021

Hootsuite and We Are Social released the "Global Digital Report for July 2021". Despite the sharp increase in the adoption and use of digital technologies since the COVID-19 pandemic more than a year ago, the latest data shows that the digital growth rate is still rising in the second half of 2021.

Social media continues to drive connected activity around the world, with the number of global social media users rapidly approaching another impressive milestone, the survey found.

Report Highlights

• As of July 2021, the number of mobile users worldwide has reached 5.27 billion, accounting for 67% of the world's total population.
• The number of mobile users has grown by 2.3% over the past year, with an increase of 117 million people in the past 12 months, or nearly 10 million new users per month.
• Internet users have increased by more than 2.5 billion since the same period last year, a year-on-year increase of nearly 6%.
• There are now 4.8 billion Internet users worldwide, almost 61% of the world's total population.
• The number of social media users has grown by more than 13% since the same period last year, with the latest data showing that the number of social media users has increased by more than 500 million in just 12 months.
• There are currently 4.48 billion social media users in the world, equivalent to 57% of the world’s total population.
• Currently, Internet access time is 6 hours and 55 minutes.
• The time spent watching broadcast and streaming TV was 3 hours and 20 minutes.
• The time spent on social media was 2 hours and 24 minutes.
• The time spent reading print media was 2 hours and 3 minutes.
• The time spent accessing the music streaming service was 1 hour and 33 minutes.
• The time for listening to the radio is 1 hour.
• • The duration of listening to the podcast is 55 minutes.
• The time spent playing games on the video game console was 1 hour and 12 minutes.

Even as coronavirus restrictions have been eased in some parts of the world in recent months, the growth in social media users shows little sign of slowing.
