In addition, the breed of the hen also affects the color of the yolk. For example, the yolk of a Leghorn chicken is darker than that of a White Rock chicken.

Feeding hens with feed high in lutein can darken the yolk color of their eggs. Feeds with high lutein content include grass powder, marigold petal powder, chili powder, alfalfa leaf powder, etc.
