What is early stage of colorectal cancer?

Every month, when I perform colonoscopy on patients in the outpatient clinic, I occasionally find one or two patients with rectal cancer. I encountered one last week. This female patient had increased bowel movements, anal swelling, and soft and thin stools. There was blood in the stool.

These symptoms are actually very similar to enteritis and hemorrhoids, so they are easily ignored and treated as hemorrhoids by the local hospital. Because the local hospital has limited doctors, after two follow-up visits and medication, there was no significant improvement in blood in the stool and anal swelling, and hemorrhoid suppositories and external medicated sitz baths were still given.

However, the patient relapsed as soon as she stopped taking the medicine. When she came to see us, we immediately performed a colonoscopy on her and found a huge cauliflower-like tumor 6 cm away from the anus. It was a low-position rectal cancer. The tumor would bleed if touched lightly and blocked half of the intestinal cavity. Therefore, the patient often had bloody stools, a swollen anus, and thin stools. Because the stool was blocked by the tumor, only a little bit could pass each time.

In fact, from the female patient above, we can conclude that she is now almost a mid-to-late stage patient, and she still has these symptoms similar to enteritis: increased bowel movement, anal swelling, soft and thin stools, and blood in the stool.

Why do I fart all day long?

1. Eating too fast

People who eat too fast will easily swallow some air into the intestines, especially those who talk while eating. The air will accumulate in the intestines and generate more gas. These gases have to find an outlet to be discharged, which can easily lead to frequent farting.

2. Intestinal flora imbalance

There is a kind of bacteria in the intestines called Aerobacter. When the number of Aerobacter in the intestines increases due to various reasons such as gastroenteritis and abuse of antibiotics, a large amount of gas will be produced in the intestines, leading to frequent farting and bloating.

3. Constipation

Patients with constipation have difficulty excreting feces, and if the feces stay in the intestines for a long time, many bacteria will breed. These bacteria will produce a lot of gas, causing frequent farting.

4. Colorectal cancer

It is true that colorectal cancer can cause increased flatulence, but increased flatulence is only one of the many clinical manifestations of colorectal cancer. If you simply fart a lot and do not have any other physical abnormalities, do not consider it to be colorectal cancer.
