1. What is partial hydatidiform mole?

Hydatidiform mole, also known as a small vesicular pregnancy, is a condition that can occur in any growing woman, and is more common in pregnant women aged 20-30. The exact cause of this disease is still unclear. It is generally believed to be related to factors such as hypofunction (especially folic acid deficiency), infection (especially viral infection), genetic inheritance and immune dysfunction.

In very rare cases, only part of the embryonic villi undergoes edema transformation, trophoblast proliferation is inactive, and the fetus, fetal umbilical cord or amniotic sac components can be seen. This type of hydatidiform mole is called partial hydatidiform mole.

2. What causes partial hydatidiform mole?

It may be related to factors such as region, race, nutrition, socioeconomic factors and pregnancy age. People whose diets are deficient in vitamin D, precursor carotene, and animal fat are at a significantly increased risk of developing hydatidiform mole.

Age is another high-risk factor. The incidence of hydatidiform mole in women over 35 and 40 years old is 2 times and 7.5 times that of younger women, respectively. Conversely, the incidence of hydatidiform mole in women under 20 years old also increases significantly.

A history of hydatidiform mole in the previous pregnancy is also a high-risk factor. For those who have experienced 1st and 2nd hydatidiform mole pregnancies, the incidence of subsequent hydatidiform mole is 1% and 15% to 20% respectively.

According to the above interpretation, we know that the cause of partial hydatidiform mole is still unclear at this stage. Of course, some people say it is a woman's problem or a man's problem, and the possibility cannot be ruled out. However, this should be left to the doctor to diagnose and treat.
