What are the tests for normal pregnancy?

The items that need to be checked during pregnancy are different. For example, when a woman does her first prenatal check-up in the early stages of pregnancy, there are many items that need to be checked. Blood and urine tests must be done, as well as tests of hormone levels and the functions of various organs.

In the second trimester, the fetus needs to undergo four-dimensional color ultrasound, Down syndrome screening, glucose tolerance and B-ultrasound fetal abnormality screening. Each test is for the health of the pregnant woman herself and the normal growth and development of the fetus. Pregnant women need to cooperate closely with the doctor for the examination and should not cancel it casually because of inconvenience or pain in the test fee. In addition to these special fetal abnormality screening tests, prenatal check-ups are also very important.

General physical examination:

Includes pulse rate, blood pressure, height, weight, heart and lung auscultation, pelvic measurement, gynecological examination, and pregnancy check-up.

Electrocardiogram:

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is an electrical activity that reflects the excitation of the heart. It has important reference value for the basic function and pathological research of the heart.

Because the blood flow of pregnant women will increase during pregnancy, the burden on the heart will also increase. Electrocardiogram examination during pregnancy is a routine physical examination, mainly to see whether the heart has become diseased and whether the woman can bear this pregnancy.

Urinalysis:

Urine tests should be done throughout your pregnancy to check for signs of protein in the urine, which is a sign of a potentially more serious condition called pre-eclampsia. Other signs of preeclampsia include swelling of the body and high blood pressure. When pregnant women have their urine tested, they may also test their urine for sugar levels, as that can be a sign of gestational diabetes.

Routine blood test:

Blood test is a basic item in pregnancy checkup for pregnant women. The blood test results will provide your doctor with important information about your physical condition and what problems may occur during pregnancy.

Based on the results of routine blood tests, the doctor can understand the composition of the hemoglobin concentration in your blood cells. When your hemoglobin concentration is slightly low, it means you may be anemic. A routine blood test will tell the doctor whether anemia is caused by zinc deficiency.

The results of the blood test will also show the total number of white blood cells and platelets in your blood. When your white blood cell count is high, it may indicate that you have inflammation.
