How long does it take for the endometrium to recover after miscarriage?

Many women experience unexpected pregnancies. In this case, if they cannot keep the child, most women will choose to have an abortion. As we all know, abortion is harmful to human health, especially it can cause damage to the endometrium. So, how long does it take for the endometrium to recover after a miscarriage? More on this below!

In fact, for women, abortion refers to the termination of pregnancy artificially or non-artificially, which can actually be divided into two types: natural abortion and artificial abortion. Artificial abortion is further divided into surgical abortion and medical abortion. In fact, there is a saying of "small confinement" among the people. In fact, it now shows that abortion has a certain impact on women's bodies. Why is it that some people can get pregnant normally after repeated abortions, while others will directly lead to uterine adhesions or even secondary infertility just because of a miscarriage? What impact does miscarriage have on the endometrium? How long does it take for the endometrium to recover after miscarriage?

First of all, we need to understand that the endometrium is divided into two layers, one is the functional layer and the other is the basal layer. The basal layer is like an endometrial production factory, which can effectively and continuously produce the functional layer. Menstruation generally refers to the shedding of the functional layer during the menstrual cycle, with one month as a cycle. Or it could be the effect of the decidua providing nutritional support to the fetus during pregnancy. In fact, as the follicles develop, the secretion of estrogen causes the endometrium to gradually increase, and allows the follicle wall to collapse to form a corpus luteum after the follicle is discharged. After the egg is released, two situations may occur. In one case, if the egg successfully meets the sperm and forms a fertilized egg, the endometrium will not fall off, but a series of changes will occur to provide for the normal growth of the fetus. In the other case, the egg ages alone, the hormone level decreases, and the endometrium without hormone support quickly falls off to form menstruation.

Whether the endometrium recovers well or not is entirely determined by the integrity of the basal layer of the endometrium and whether ovulation is normal. Generally speaking, as long as normal menstruation is restored after miscarriage and the menstrual volume is the same as before, it means that the endometrium has recovered. In addition, endometrial pathology examination as early as the 9th day after miscarriage can reveal that it has returned to normal. However, abortion itself is a kind of damage to the endometrium. As long as there is a wound after abortion, the endometrium will form a wound, which will easily cause endometrial inflammation, which can easily lead to spontaneous abortion or drug-induced abortion. However, this will cause relatively little damage to the endometrium, and in surgical abortion, mechanical force is used to suck or scrape the pregnancy out of the uterine cavity. If the operation is more violent or the number of times is more, then there is a high possibility of damaging the basal layer of the endometrium. After the operation, it is very likely to cause menstrual disorders, uterine adhesions and even symptoms of secondary infertility. If you experience dysmenorrhea, decreased menstrual flow, or even amenorrhea after a miscarriage, you must go to a regular hospital for treatment in time and do not delay treatment.
