Why do I feel uncomfortable when sleeping in the early stages of pregnancy?

In the early stages of pregnancy, women will experience many adverse reactions because they cannot adapt to the presence of a baby in their stomachs. Many women will experience discomfort when sleeping in the early stages of pregnancy. Stomach discomfort while sleeping has a great impact on pregnant women, because pregnant women need to regulate their bodies and pay special attention to sleep. Faced with this situation, people need to pay special attention. The following will introduce why stomach discomfort occurs when sleeping in early pregnancy.

Why do I feel uncomfortable in my stomach at night when I am pregnant?

1. Early pregnancy reaction

Many pregnant women often experience some pregnancy reactions and stomach discomfort in the early stages of pregnancy. Experts point out that these are normal phenomena, and pregnant women can effectively alleviate this phenomenon as long as they pay more attention to rest. The abdominal discomfort caused by pregnancy reactions is most serious in the middle stage of pregnancy. Most pregnant women often experience some not very severe abdominal pain and discomfort, but it does not last too long. Some pregnant women also have symptoms such as vomiting.

2. Enlarged uterus

After a period of pregnancy, many pregnant women will experience symptoms such as abdominal distension and pain, especially after 3-4 months of pregnancy, the symptoms of lower abdominal distension and pain are more obvious. This is because the uterus grows faster during this period, causing the organs around the uterus to be squeezed and painful.

3. Round ligament of uterus

Some pregnant women will also experience abdominal pain after 5-6 months of pregnancy, which is mainly dull pain. In this case, the round ligament of the uterus supporting the uterus will stretch, lengthen, and increase in tension, resulting in dull pain.

4. Hiatal hernia

Hiatal hernia can also cause pregnant women to experience abdominal discomfort. Generally, this symptom occurs most frequently during the 4th to 7th month of pregnancy. At this time, pregnant women often experience upper abdominal pain. The most important thing for these pregnant women is to adjust their diet.

Correct and comfortable sleeping position to prevent stomach discomfort in pregnant women

1. In the early stages of pregnancy (1-3 months), the fetus develops in the uterus and is still in the mother's pelvic cavity. Direct external pressure or self-pressure will not be very severe, so the sleeping posture of the pregnant woman can be arbitrary, mainly adopting a comfortable position.

2. During the second trimester of pregnancy (4-7 months), you should pay attention to protecting your abdomen and avoid direct external force. If a pregnant woman has too much amniotic fluid or is pregnant with twins, she should sleep in a side-lying position.

3. In the late pregnancy (8-10 months), the lying position is particularly important. It is advisable to adopt the left side lying position, which can correct the right rotation of the enlarged uterus, reduce the pressure of the uterus on the abdominal aorta and iliac arteries, and improve blood circulation. But it is not advisable to take the supine position.

In fact, it is normal to feel a little uncomfortable in the abdomen during pregnancy. If you don’t have diarrhea all the time, there is no big problem. If you are really worried, you can go to the hospital for a detailed examination. Remember to cover yourself with a blanket when you sleep at night to prevent catching a cold. Do not eat spicy or cold food, and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. If you don’t have any other symptoms of discomfort, then just rest assured and take care of your pregnancy.
