Color of lochia 10 days after delivery

Color of lochia 10 days after delivery

After giving birth, women will discharge lochia, but the color of lochia is usually different at different stages. However, women must discharge lochia in time after giving birth. If the lochia does not stop or is not discharged completely, it will cause serious harm to women's health. Postpartum women need to learn to judge whether the lochia has been discharged completely by the color of the lochia.

What is the color of lochia 10 days after delivery?

Under normal circumstances, postpartum lochia will follow three stages. It will usually stop in one month, and in a few people it will last for 6-8 weeks. The amount of bleeding usually decreases from more to less, accompanied by a bloody smell, but not smelly.

1. Bloody lochia: appears 3-4 days after delivery; it is bright red, contains a large amount of blood, sometimes with small blood clots, a small amount of fetal membrane and necrotic decidual tissue. If bloody lochia lasts too long, it indicates that the uterus is not recovering well.

2. Serous lochia: appears 4 days after delivery and lasts for about 10 days; it is light red in color, contains a small amount of blood, more necrotic decidual tissue, cervical mucus, vaginal discharge, and bacteria.

3. White lochia: appears 10 days after delivery and lasts for about 3 weeks; the total volume is 250-500ml; it is white in color, viscous, and contains a large number of white blood cells, necrotic decidual tissue, epidermal cells and bacteria.

Finally, mothers should be aware that normal postpartum lochia is bloody but not smelly. After about a week, bloody lochia will gradually turn into serous lochia, and after about 2 weeks, it will turn into white lochia. White lochia will also last for 2-3 weeks, so a total of 4-6 weeks. If there is persistent lochia, it must be dealt with as soon as possible.

Generally, in order to better restore the uterus, many mothers eat foods such as hawthorn, donkey-hide gelatin, lotus root, etc. during the confinement period to help discharge lochia. When expelling lochia, mothers should pay attention to vaginal hygiene. It is best to wash the private parts every day, keep them clean, and change sanitary pads or sanitary napkins frequently. Remember that sexual intercourse is prohibited during the period of lochia discharge. For the sake of the mother's health, you must hold back!

Why is the lochia bright red 10 days after delivery?

Within 3-4 weeks after the fetus is delivered, the tissue, mucus in the uterine cavity and the blood discharged from the wound are mixed together and discharged from the vagina, commonly known as lochia.

In the TCM classic “The Heart of Pregnancy and Childbirth” it is mentioned: because of the damage to menstrual blood during childbirth, the deficiency and insufficiency of blood, inability to control blood flow, or incomplete removal of bad blood, the good blood will be difficult to calm down, and will flow out together and will not stop for a long time. Therefore, lochia is often related to deficiency or blood stasis. Normal lochia has a bloody smell but no odor, lasts for 4 to 6 weeks, and the total amount is about 250ml-500ml, with large individual differences. In the first week after delivery, the amount of lochia is large and bright red. It contains a large amount of blood, small blood clots and necrotic decidual tissue, which is called red lochia. After one week to half a month, the amount of blood in the lochia decreases, and there are more necrotic decidua, cervical mucus, vaginal secretions and bacteria, which makes the lochia turn into light red serous fluid. The lochia at this time is called serous lochia. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that if the women are injured in menstrual blood after childbirth, and the blood becomes insufficient and cannot be collected, or if the bad blood is not completely removed, the good blood will be difficult to calm down and will flow out together for a long time.
