Do I need to express milk after weaning?

If you feel breast pain after weaning, it means you need to express milk. Many people will experience this symptom. When it happens, you should keep yourself in a good mood and use a hot towel to warm your breasts so that the milk can be discharged more smoothly. You can also express milk, but you must pay attention to the milking technique. It is best to go to the hospital for relevant treatment to prevent inflammation when expressing milk.

1. Can I squeeze the milk when I am weaning?

When the milk is swelling rapidly after weaning, you can squeeze it out a little. But you must not squeeze it out, you must be moderate. The traditional practice is that even if the milk is increasing, you cannot squeeze it. The old people will say that if the milk increases a little, it will go back down. But in fact, allowing the breasts to swell without limit is very risky. Once the milk ducts are blocked, it is very likely to cause mastitis. Therefore, in order to prevent mastitis caused by weaning, it is still necessary to slowly express milk when breasts are full.

It will be painful when the milk is swollen, and the body temperature may also be high. The feeling of excruciating pain is no less than the pain of giving birth. If the swelling is unbearable, apply a hot towel to your breasts to relieve the pain. When the pain becomes unbearable, touch the lump in your breast with your hand. If it feels hard and you can even see the bulge in the milk duct, you can squeeze out some milk. But don't squeeze too much, and do it step by step, squeezing less each time.

2. Methods to relieve milk swelling during weaning

1. Cabbage therapy

Applying cabbage to the breasts is a common folk remedy: wash a cabbage, peel off each leaf completely, and then cover the entire breast with the leaves along the armpits and pectoralis major muscles. Apply slight pressure with a bra to allow the cabbage leaves to fully contact the skin. Remove the leaves after 24 hours. This method can effectively reduce breast engorgement and prevent new mothers from suffering from mastitis due to improper care.

2. Traditional Chinese medicine

Take 120g of Glauber's salt, put them into two gauze bags respectively, apply them to the breasts and bandage them. It can significantly relieve the feeling of breast swelling and pain, and it is especially effective in treating redness, swelling and pain in the breasts.
