Sciatica is the most common of the various problems we face today. It is an independent disease with an onset age usually between 20 and 60 years old. It usually occurs in young and old people. The main symptom is pain in the pelvic nerves, especially on both sides and the back of the thigh and buttocks. The whole body will feel pain. You need to go to the hospital for a clear examination and diagnosis. What is sciatica? How many types of sciatica can be divided into? Sciatica is divided into two major categories, namely primary sciatica and secondary sciatica, and the causes of the two are different. 1. Primary sciatica Primary sciatica is mainly caused by direct damage to the sciatic nerve due to infection or poisoning, also known as sciatica, which is rare in clinical practice. It often occurs simultaneously with myositis and fibromyositis. Cold and dampness may be the triggering factors. 2. Secondary sciatica Secondary sciatica is pain caused by irritation, compression or damage of the sciatic nerve pathway by lesions in adjacent tissues. Most of the sciatica seen clinically is secondary sciatica. Symptoms: Sciatica often occurs after trauma, physical labor or cold, or recurs due to the above reasons. Most cases present with unilateral pain, but some present with bilateral pain. Typical sciatica presents as pain in one side of the waist and buttocks, radiating to the posterior thigh, posterior and lateral side of the calf, and lateral side of the foot. Walking and changing body position can aggravate the pain, and raising the affected leg is more painful when lying down. (Intern editor: Zhang Lan) Causes of sciatica: 1. Primary sciatica: Regarding primary sciatica, orthopedic experts say that it is generally caused by inflammation, mostly unilateral, and often occurs simultaneously with myofibromyalgia. The main causes of primary sciatica are cold and dampness, and infection from other inflammatory lesions such as tonsillitis, prostatitis, gingivitis, sinusitis, etc., sometimes accompanied by myositis and fibromyalgia. 2. Secondary sciatica: In response to the question "What are the causes of sciatica?", orthopedic experts said that patients may suffer from secondary sciatica, which is generally caused by compression or stimulation of adjacent lesions. It is divided into radicular and trunk sciatica, which refers to whether the compression site is on the nerve root or the nerve trunk, respectively. Radicular type is more common. The most common cause of this type of sciatica is intervertebral disc herniation. Other causes of sciatica include intraspinal tumors, vertebral metastasis, lumbar tuberculosis, lumbar spinal stenosis, etc.; trunk type can be caused by sacroiliitis, pelvic tumors, uterine compression during pregnancy, hip arthritis, buttocks trauma, diabetes, etc. From the above we know that sciatica is not hereditary. Orthopedic experts say that if sciatica is not treated early, as the disease progresses, the needle-like pain felt by the patient may develop into unbearable pain, insomnia, occasionally accompanied by knee pain, and gradually develop into lameness or even disability. Therefore, in life, we should understand the causes of sciatica, take good prevention and care, and if similar diseases occur, we should go to a regular hospital for effective treatment as soon as possible. |
