What is labia minora enlargement?

Women have two types of labia minora and labia majora, but the functions of these two are not the same. Under normal circumstances, labia minora are created for beauty, but some women’s daily lives are affected by enlarged labia minora, and they may even experience pain, which has a great impact on their sexual life and daily life. So, what exactly does it mean to have enlarged labia minora?

It is usually congenital. It is mainly caused by abnormal development of the reproductive tubercle under the control of genetic genes during the embryonic development period. As the human body develops, the labia minora gradually grow larger. The main function of the labia minora is to cover the vaginal opening and prevent the entry of bacteria.

Enlarged labia minora can easily cause pain and discomfort due to friction from underwear, jeans and bicycle seats. Sometimes it can cause patients to become restless, and in severe cases it can affect the overall physical and mental health, but labia minora hypertrophy is not a terrible disease and can be changed through some minor surgeries.

Women's labia minora vary in shape, about 4-5 cm long, 0.5-1.0 cm wide, with natural and beautiful curves. Some women have enlarged labia minora, which not only look curled, ugly and lacking in aesthetic appeal, but can also cause some local discomfort, such as affecting urination, causing genital pain when the enlarged labia minora rubs against underwear when walking or riding a bicycle, and causing inconvenience or pain when the labia minora are pulled into the vagina during sexual intercourse.

Plastic surgery is the only way to treat enlarged labia minora. Our beauty center has its own original surgical method for performing plastic surgery on enlarged labia minora. Generally, an incision is made in the folds on the sides of the enlarged labia minora, and then the overly enlarged labia minora tissue is partially removed. Finally, the incision is sutured. The wound is hidden and there is basically no scar left after the operation.

Surgery should generally be done away from the menstrual period, and there is no need to remove stitches after surgery. Generally, the wound will be most swollen for 1 week and then slowly subside. After the operation, we must pay attention to frequently cleaning the genitals with special disinfectants to prevent wound infection. It is not recommended to use sanitary napkins or sanitary pads after the operation, but cotton underwear needs to be changed frequently. Also, avoid eating spicy and irritating foods after the operation, and try to eat more light foods.
