What is the role of fallopian tube flushing

What is the role of fallopian tube flushing

Fallopian tube flushing is a treatment method commonly used for fallopian tube blockage, but this method is also harmful, so unless it is necessary, this operation should be performed as little as possible, because the fallopian tube is very important to us, and the fallopian tube is also relatively fragile, so during treatment, the stimulation of the fallopian tube by drugs should be minimized. So what is the role of fallopian tube flushing?

Potential harms of hydrotubation: Hydrotubation is not a good method for treating fallopian tubes. It is only useful for mild adhesions. If the adhesions are mild, angiography can flush them out. If angiography cannot flush them out, hydrotubation will have no effect.

Moreover, repeated hydrotubation is harmful rather than beneficial to the fallopian tubes. First, repeated hydrotubation may destroy the peristaltic ability of the fallopian tubes themselves and the swinging ability of the cilia. Secondly, every time a hydrotubation is performed, the chance of infection increases, especially if the disinfection is not strict. Many cases where the fallopian tubes were not seriously injured originally may become worse after a hydrotubation.

There are great disadvantages to hydrotubation, so the application of this technology in the examination of tubal infertility is rarely seen nowadays. Disadvantages of hydrotubation: Hydrotubation and fluid perfusion involve injecting methylene blue solution or saline solution into the uterine cavity from the cervix. Then it flows from the uterine cavity into the fallopian tube, and through a certain pressure of the liquid, the obstructed fallopian tube is restored to patency. However, since hydrotubation involves injecting liquid into the uterine cavity using a catheter, the volume and surface area of the uterine cavity are much larger than the cross-sectional area of the catheter and fallopian tube cavity. According to the principles of fluid dynamics, the pressure is equal to the pressure divided by the force-bearing area. Therefore, the pressure of the fluid injected into the fallopian tube is very limited and is only suitable for mild adhesions.

The misdiagnosis rate of fallopian tube hydrotubation is very high and there are certain risks involved. This method was widely used before the 1980s. However, in actual clinical work, it was found that the misdiagnosis rate of this method is over 90%. It can neither determine the site of fallopian tube obstruction nor the severity and nature of the obstruction, and there is a risk of fallopian tube rupture and massive bleeding like ectopic pregnancy. This method of examination has now been abandoned in infertility clinics where conditions permit. There are other side effects if the fallopian tube hydrotubation is performed too often. For example, when the fallopian tube hydrotubation is performed to check the patency of the fallopian tube, false negative and false positive diagnostic results are often caused. The therapeutic effect of fallopian tube hydrotubation is very limited, but if the hydrotubation is repeated, it may destroy the peristaltic ability of the fallopian tube itself and the swinging ability of the cilia, making the condition further aggravated. In addition, every time you drain the water, you increase the chance of infection. The above are the common side effects of fallopian tube hydrotubation, so it is unreliable and unsafe to use fallopian tube hydrotubation to perform fallopian tube examination. The diagnosis and treatment of tubal infertility are of greatest concern to patients, but patients should avoid blindly diagnosing tubal infertility.
