What to do if your legs and feet are swollen during late pregnancy

Once a pregnant woman reaches the late stage of pregnancy, it is very inconvenient to move because her stomach is on the verge of bursting. Therefore, pregnant women at this time should also pay attention to their walking posture in life to avoid a heavy belly, which will put burden on their lumbar spine. Some pregnant women in the late pregnancy will also have edema in their legs, even to the point where they cannot wear shoes. So what should pregnant women do if they experience swelling in their legs during late pregnancy?

1. Eat enough protein

For pregnant women who experience swollen feet and legs in the later stages of pregnancy, the first thing to do is to ensure that they consume enough protein every day. Make sure to eat animal foods such as livestock, poultry, meat, fish, shrimp, eggs, milk, and bean foods every day. This type of food is rich in high-quality protein. Pregnant women with anemia should also eat animal liver 2 to 3 times a week to supplement iron.

2. Take enough vitamins

During pregnancy, pregnant women should eat more fruits and vegetables to ensure adequate vitamin intake and avoid swelling of the legs and feet. Vegetables and fruits contain many vitamins and trace elements necessary for the human body. They can enhance the body's resistance, strengthen metabolism, and also have detoxification and diuretic effects. Pregnant mothers should not forget to eat vegetables and fruits every day.

3. Avoid eating salty food

Too salty food is a major factor causing leg and foot edema in pregnant women in the late pregnancy. When you have edema, you should eat light food and avoid eating too salty food, especially pickles, to prevent the edema from getting worse.

4. Control your water intake

Pregnant women who suffer from swollen legs and feet in the late pregnancy due to water intake should strictly control their water intake.

We all say that prevention is worse than cure. If pregnant women want to avoid swelling of legs and feet in the later stages of pregnancy, they should first adjust their diet. Another very important factor is to ensure a certain amount of exercise every day. Exercise can promote blood circulation in the body and effectively prevent swelling of the legs and feet.
