Very thirsty during breastfeeding

Very thirsty during breastfeeding

The lactation period is a very important period. The physical condition of the mother is directly related to the feeding of the child. If there is any abnormality in the mother's body at this time, people will be very worried. Thirst is a very normal condition. When the body lacks water, you will feel thirsty. Some mothers feel very thirsty during breastfeeding, and they still feel similar even if they keep replenishing water. So, why do you feel so thirsty during breastfeeding? Let’s take a look below.

It is normal to feel a little thirsty while breastfeeding after childbirth because the hormones released during breastfeeding can cause the mother's mouth to dry out. Breast milk is composed of water and a variety of nutrients, and 700-800 ml of water can be produced every day. Therefore, during breastfeeding, there will be more water "loss". Therefore, it is particularly necessary to replenish a lot of water, or drink more fresh fish soup, chicken soup, fresh milk and boiled water. It is recommended that breastfeeding mothers drink 8-12 glasses of water a day to maintain adequate water in the body.

However, if you experience unbearable dry mouth and weight loss while breastfeeding, you should consider whether you have diabetes or hyperthyroidism. Many diabetic patients experience a sharp increase in urine volume due to high blood sugar. At this time, despite drinking a lot of water, you will still feel thirsty, and experience "increased drinking, increased eating, increased urination, and weight loss". People with hyperthyroidism may also often feel thirsty, quickly become tired, have muscle weakness, palpitations, and irritability. If you encounter these situations, you should go to the hospital as soon as possible to consult an endocrinologist, and at the same time ensure your daily physiological water needs.

In addition, there are also some cases of thirst caused by unknown reasons. For example, in addition to feeling thirsty for no apparent reason, the child may also show signs of being willful, angry, and aggressive. This is often a neuropsychiatric thirst, which has no special impact on the mother and can be treated symptomatically by tricking the body, such as holding up a cup of water and swallowing several times in succession. You can also moisten your lips with water, which can sometimes quench your thirst.
