What to do if there is little amniotic fluid before delivery

If there is too little amniotic fluid before delivery, it should be taken seriously. This situation can easily cause the child to have breathing difficulties. There are many reasons for too little amniotic fluid. For example, if the due date has passed, the amniotic fluid will gradually become less. Through examination, if the fetus does not have any deformities, the delivery should be carried out in time to avoid harm to the fetus.

What to do if there is little amniotic fluid before delivery

If oligohydramnios is caused by insufficient maternal blood volume or hypoxia, drinking plenty of water, intravenous infusion and oxygen inhalation can indeed play a certain role. For mothers with hypercoagulation function, low molecular weight heparin can be injected subcutaneously or low molecular weight dextran can be infused intravenously to make the blood less easy to coagulate, improve the blood circulation in the placenta, and facilitate the formation of amniotic fluid. If necessary, amniotic infusion therapy can also be used, that is, under the guidance of B-ultrasound, a puncture needle is used to inject an appropriate amount of normal saline into the amniotic cavity through the abdomen to improve the condition of oligohydramnios. This method is now recognized and adopted by more and more people, especially for some pregnant women who have unexplained oligohydramnios in the early stages and whose fetuses are immature. Amniotic fluid infusion can improve the effects of oligohydramnios on the fetus in a short period of time and maintain the normal development of the fetus.

If there is too little amniotic fluid, the fetus is found to be normal after examination, and the pregnant woman has no serious complications, the amount of amniotic fluid can be increased by drinking water quickly. Drink more boiled water. Remember to drink a large glass of water before the next ultrasound. Generally, more amniotic fluid will increase. Pregnant women who are full-term and have not yet given birth and are lacking in amniotic fluid can drink 2000 ml of water within 2 hours. If the requirement is still not met, the above method can be repeated. This method is safe, effective, simple and easy to implement. Those who can afford it can go to the hospital for regular oxygen inhalation.

Common causes of oligohydramnios

1. Rupture of the amniotic membrane leads to less amniotic fluid. Even a small crack in the amniotic membrane will cause some amniotic fluid to flow out. This condition can occur at any stage of pregnancy. However, it is more common near birth. Rupture of the amniotic membrane increases the risk of infection for the mother and fetus because it provides a pathway for bacteria to enter the amniotic cavity. Sometimes, a small tear will heal on its own, and the fluid will stop leaking and return to normal levels. This usually happens if the leak was caused by amniocentesis.

2. Placental problems lead to low amniotic fluid. If there is a problem with the placenta, such as partial abruption, the placenta cannot supply enough blood and nutrients to the fetus, resulting in the interruption of the amniotic fluid circulation in the fetus.

3. Intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) Oligohydramnios is one of the characteristics of intrauterine growth retardation. Chronic hypoxia causes redistribution of fetal blood circulation, mainly supplying the brain and heart, while renal blood flow decreases and fetal urine production decreases, resulting in oligohydramnios.

4. During overdue pregnancy, the placenta functions poorly, the perfusion volume is insufficient, the fetus becomes dehydrated, and the amount of amniotic fluid is low. Some scholars also believe that in overdue pregnancy, the fetus is overmature, its renal tubules are more sensitive to antidiuretic hormone, and the urine volume is low, leading to oligohydramnios. The incidence of oligohydramnios caused by overdue pregnancy is as high as 20% to 30%.
