Does cervicitis itch?

Cervicitis is a relatively common gynecological inflammation and a disease that troubles many female friends. If you have cervicitis, the patient will experience itching symptoms to a certain extent. If this disease is not treated in time, it may even worsen into cervical cancer, greatly threatening the patient's life safety. Below, we will introduce in detail the main symptoms, clinical manifestations and prevention and conditioning methods of cervicitis.

1. Main symptoms

Acute cervicitis: increased leucorrhea, which is purulent, accompanied by low back pain and lower abdominal discomfort.

Chronic cervicitis: excessive vaginal discharge, which is milky white, mucous or contains blood, or bleeding during sexual intercourse, accompanied by vulvar itching, lumbosacral pain, and aggravation during menstruation.

Signs: In acute cervicitis, gynecological examination shows cervical congestion, edema, and tenderness; in chronic cervicitis, gynecological examination shows varying degrees of cervical erosion, hypertrophy, or polyps.

2. Clinical manifestations

1. Cervical erosion

Chronic cervicitis can have various local manifestations: cervical erosion Cervical erosion is the most common local feature in the inflammatory process of chronic cervicitis. The red lesions on the surface of the cervix are the result of the shedding of the squamous epithelium and its replacement by columnar epithelium, exposing the subepithelial blood vessels. There is a clear boundary between the erosion surface and the surrounding normal squamous epithelium. Because it is not a true erosion, it is also called "pseudo-erosion". Depending on the degree of inflammation and the growth rate of columnar epithelium, cervical erosion can manifest as three types. This is the most common type of chronic cervicitis. It manifests as a finely granular red area in the cervicovaginal part of the cervix at the external cervical os.

2. Cervical hypertrophy

Due to the long-term stimulation of chronic inflammation, the cervix becomes congested and edematous, and the glands and stroma proliferate, causing the cervix to hypertrophy to varying degrees.

3. Cervical polyps

Under the long-term stimulation of chronic inflammation, the cervical mucosa proliferates locally. Due to the rejection effect of the uterus, the proliferating mucosa gradually protrudes from the cervical opening, forming polyps.

4. Cervical gland cyst

Also known as Nabot's cyst, abbreviated as Nabot's cyst. These are small bluish-white vesicles that protrude from the surface of the cervix.

5. Endocervicitis

That is cervicitis. The inflammation is confined to the cervical mucosa and the tissues beneath it. Clinically, the cervical vagina is smooth, but the cervical opening is congested or blocked with purulent secretions.

3. Prevention and conditioning

1. Keep the vulva clean.

2. Minimize the damage to the cervix caused by artificial abortion and other gynecological surgeries.

3. Stop applying cervical medication during menstruation and avoid sexual intercourse during treatment.

The main symptom of chronic cervicitis is increased vaginal discharge. The leucorrhea is milky white and mucous, sometimes yellow or pus-like. When accompanied by polyp formation, bloody leucorrhea or bleeding after sexual intercourse may occur. When the inflammation spreads to the pelvic cavity, there may be lumbar pain, lower abdominal distension and dysmenorrhea. These symptoms worsen before and after menstruation, bowel movements, and sexual intercourse. Sometimes it is accompanied by frequent urination, difficulty urinating, irregular menstruation, infertility, etc.

Cervical erosion is closely related to cervical cancer. The incidence of cervical cancer in patients with cervical erosion is much higher than that in patients without cervical erosion, so active treatment should be given when suffering from cervical erosion.
