How to massage milk lumps

How to massage milk lumps

I believe that many expectant mothers will encounter some embarrassing problems during breastfeeding. The most common one is that they fail to suckle their babies in time, or fail to use a breast pump in time, which will cause some milk lumps to accumulate in the breasts and cause mammary gland blockage, affecting normal blood circulation. When the mammary gland is blocked, it will cause bacterial infection and even endocrine disorders. These problems can be slowly solved through massage.

Breast health tips during lactation

Milk stasis

Milk stasis is actually a problem caused by the poor milk discharge of expectant mothers, which causes excess milk to accumulate in the breasts.

In fact, this problem is very easy to solve. When mothers are not breastfeeding, they can just hold the breast where they feel milk accumulation with their hands and vibrate the breast slightly. The amplitude of the vibration can be changed automatically. With the other hand, they can massage the area around the areola appropriately. In this way, the problem of milk accumulation can be well solved.

The baby only drinks milk from one side

Many mothers will find that their babies seem to prefer milk from one side, while the milk from one side cannot meet the baby's normal needs. Moreover, if the baby only drinks milk from one side, the mother's breasts will become one larger and the other smaller after the breastfeeding period, which is very unsightly. To solve this problem, you need to resolve the lump around the areola of the breast that the baby doesn't like.

Normally, babies will not feed from only one side of the breast for no reason. This is because there may be a lump around the areola of one breast, which requires the baby to suck harder every time and may cause breathing difficulties, so the baby naturally doesn't like it. The reason why lumps appear in the tissues around the areola of the breast during lactation is because of the accumulation of milk. So mothers can use the massage methods mentioned above.

You can also hold the outside of the areola with one hand, press the areola vertically with your thumb and index finger, and use the other hand to massage the position of the mammary duct. This will promote milking and the areola will slowly soften, just like the other side. In this way, milk will be secreted continuously and there will be no lumps on the areola. Naturally, the baby will fall in love with the breast on this side.

The nipples are short, flat, or even inverted.

Everyone should understand this principle well. If the mother's nipples are shorter or even concave, it will become more difficult for the baby to suck milk, and it may even cause breastfeeding to fail to proceed normally. If the problem is not resolved for a long time, it will affect the patency of the mammary ducts, causing breast pain and breast lumps. This will make it more difficult for the baby to suck milk, and no matter how much milk is secreted, it will be useless.

Expectant mothers who have this problem should massage their breasts more often. They can pinch out the nipples and massage the areola and the mammary ducts on both sides. This will help unclog the mammary ducts and reduce the problem of breast lumps.

Too much milk secretion and the baby can't finish it

If the mother secretes too much milk and the baby cannot drink it all, it will cause milk congestion. Besides, the milk in the breast will deteriorate and grow bacteria, and it is not good for the health of the child if this milk is fed to the child.

Therefore, if the mother secretes too much milk, it is recommended to use a breast pump to suck it out first. If the mammary glands have already had lumps, it is recommended to use hot compresses to soften the breasts. If you can't use a breast pump to suck out the milk, you can ask your husband to help you suck it out with his mouth.

Finally, I would like to remind breastfeeding mothers to be careful not to let their children bite their breasts, and to pay attention to the cleanliness of the breasts. At the same time, if you find any redness, swelling, lumps or other problems in the breasts, you should temporarily stop breastfeeding.
