Is medical abortion painful?

Medical abortion is to abort the fetus by using abortion pills. Because the fetus is relatively small at this time, it is also easier to abort it through medical methods. Generally speaking, medical abortion will cause some pain, especially when removing the gestational sac, women will experience symptoms of abdominal pain. Improper medical abortion can easily cause certain harm, such as incomplete abortion causing infection, and even adverse effects on the ovaries and uterus.

Is medical abortion painful?

The so-called medical abortion is to use the stimulation of drugs to cause the baby to abort. This is one of the abortion methods provided by hospitals for women who have an unexpected pregnancy but do not plan to have children. Many women who are afraid of pain usually want to know whether medical abortion is really painless before having it. Today we will talk about whether medical abortion is painful or not.

If you go to the hospital and pass the pregnancy test, but don’t want to give birth to the child, and finally choose to have a medical abortion. Your doctor will usually prescribe you three days of medication, a newer endocrine drug called mifepristone.

After pregnancy, a woman's body produces the hormone progesterone, which is an element in maintaining pregnancy. When a woman takes mifepristone, the drug reduces the activity of progesterone, which can cause miscarriage.

This is the principle of medical abortion. After taking the medicine for the third day, the woman's uterus will experience strong contractions, which will prompt the uterus to expel the gestational sac villi from the body. During this process, the uterus will feel the same pain as giving birth, but the pain may not last as long. The duration of uterine contraction varies depending on your physical condition, and the intense pain usually lasts about 10-30 minutes.

In addition, if medical abortion does not completely expel the villi of the gestational sac, a uterine curettage will be required afterwards. This surgery is painful, especially when performed without anesthesia.

What happens if you don't have your period after a miscarriage?

If you do not pay attention to maintenance after miscarriage, it will not only lead to amenorrhea, but also cause complications such as infection. So, how long does it take for menstruation to come after a miscarriage? Generally speaking, menstruation will come within three months after a miscarriage. If you haven't had your period for more than three months, it's best to go to the hospital for a check-up.

There are two main reasons for not having menstruation after miscarriage:

1. Having sex or taking a bath too soon after medical abortion. After an abortion, doctors will tell patients how long they should not have sex. However, some women do not listen to the doctor's advice and have sex or take a bath with their husbands within a few days after the operation, which leads to bacteria invading the vagina and uterus, causing uterine infection, irregular menstruation and even amenorrhea. Therefore, women must follow the doctor's advice after an abortion.

2. Excessive mental stress and anxiety. Some women are afraid before miscarriage, while others worry that they will not be able to get pregnant or give birth after miscarriage, which causes mental burden. If this emotion still exists after miscarriage, it is very likely to lead to amenorrhea.
