How to unclog a nipple

How to unclog a nipple

If the nipple is blocked, milk cannot be secreted, and the baby's breastfeeding will be hindered and affected, which is naturally not good for the baby's health. However, many mothers are prone to this situation, so how to unclog the nipple becomes the key. In fact, when milk is stagnant, you can use massage and other techniques to unclog the nodules and lumps, and pay attention to the correct breastfeeding posture to prevent some nipple diseases.

1. What should I do if I have milk stasis during lactation?

First, apply a small amount of lubricant on the skin of the affected breast and support the affected breast with your left hand.

Second, use the four fingers of your right hand (from index finger to little finger) to push, knead and press to clear the lumps and swellings in the affected breast.

Third, use the five fingertips of your right hand to gently rub and grasp along the radial direction of the milk ducts from the base of the nipple to the areola to clear the milk stasis.

Fourth, pinch the areola and nipple of the affected side with the index finger and middle finger of your right hand, and gently lift them outwards continuously, and the congested milk will spray out. Repeat the above method until all the milk stasis is drained and the breasts become soft.

2. How to prevent milk stasis?

1. The correct breastfeeding posture is helpful in preventing the occurrence of nipple diseases, so women should choose the correct breastfeeding method according to the specific situation. Commonly used positions include sitting, side-lying, and embracing.

2. Breastfeed at any time according to the baby's needs. The milk should be expressed after each feeding.

3. Do not let the child excessively pull on the nipples during breastfeeding. After each breastfeeding, gently lift the breasts with your hands and massage for 10 minutes.

4. Choose a bra that is appropriately tight. Make it play the best lifting effect.

5. Do not breastfeed for too long. The child should be weaned when he is 10 months old.

6. Breastfeeding women should pay attention to rest, maintain a happy spirit, enhance the body's resistance and reduce the occurrence of mastitis.

7. Pay attention to your baby’s oral hygiene. If the nipple is damaged, stop breastfeeding and seek timely treatment.

8. Wash your breasts with warm water at least twice a day. This is not only beneficial to the cleanliness and hygiene of the breasts, but also increases the elasticity of the suspensory ligaments, thereby preventing breast sagging.
