What should I do if my breasts become swollen and painful due to weaning?

When the baby reaches a certain age, mothers should start to arrange for weaning the baby. The process of weaning is a painful period for the mother because the breasts are swollen and painful during the weaning process. Therefore, you should pay attention to understanding the correct weaning method and also pay attention to gradual progress.

1. Be careful not to have lumps in the breasts during weaning. If they are a little hard, you can massage that area slowly. If you really can't stand the swelling and pain, you can squeeze out some milk appropriately. Don't let it stay there, as it will make you uncomfortable. At the same time, if it keeps swelling until there are lumps and you don't massage or squeeze out some, it may cause breast hyperplasia. After weaning, you can choose some good massage methods and eat some breast-enhancing foods to prevent sagging breasts. As for underwear, you can wear something a little looser.

2. When weaning your baby, you should also say a gentle farewell to your breasts, allowing the breasts to reduce milk production during the gradual weaning process until they no longer secrete milk. Improper weaning methods may cause great pain to the mother, and breast swelling, pain, and mastitis may follow.

3. Methods of weaning:

Gradually reduce the frequency and output of milking until no additional stimulation is needed. Usually, the breasts will basically not need additional milking after about 2 weeks. At the same time, you should pay attention to eating less soup and milk-inducing foods, so that milk secretion will gradually decrease until it disappears completely.

If the mother stops breastfeeding but the milk production still reaches more than 1000 ml, the breasts will be full in about 2 hours, and the local distension and discomfort will gradually increase in 4 hours. At this time, weaning will take more time, or you can use auxiliary methods and go to the hospital to get some medicine to help reduce the amount of milk.
