What is the sign of a woman's swollen feet?

When your feet are swollen, you usually don't think that this is a sign of illness when you massage the soles of your feet. Swollen feet indicate physical discomfort, so don't worry too much and seek medical attention in time. What illness does simple swollen feet indicate? Let's take a look.

What causes swollen feet?

(1) Cardiogenic edema: In right heart failure, exudative or constrictive pericarditis, edema is caused by increased venous pressure in the systemic circulation and increased capillary filtration pressure. The characteristic of cardiogenic edema is that it first occurs in the pars flaccid, often spreading slowly from the lower limbs to the whole body. In severe cases, ascites or pleural effusion may occur. The rate of edema development is relatively slow. The edema characteristics are stable and the mobility is small. The key basis for the diagnosis of cardiogenic edema is heart disease history and clinical symptoms. A significant increase in measured venous pressure is the key adjunct to the diagnosis.

(2) Hepatic edema: Before the onset of ascites in cirrhosis, patients often experience mild edema in the lower limbs, which first occurs in the ankles and then gradually spreads upwards. There is usually no edema in the head, face, and upper limbs. In more serious cases, ascites and pleural effusion may occur. Medical records of various chronic liver diseases as well as clinical symptoms and laboratory indicators of liver function tests are the basis for diagnosis.

(3) Malnutrition edema: Chronic wasting disease, long-term malnutrition, protein-losing gastrointestinal disease, severe burns, etc. leading to hypoproteinemia, vitamin B21 deficiency, etc. can all cause edema. The relaxation of tissues and the reduction of tissue pressure caused by the reduction of body fat will aggravate the retention of water and moisture. Edema often spreads slowly from the feet to the whole body.

(4) Other causes of generalized edema:

Hypertensive myxedema: When the condition of patients with hypothyroidism worsens, the skin is infiltrated by mucin and mucopolysaccharide, causing atypical non-pitting edema, which is called myxedema. They often occur on the face and in front of the ankles.

Blood drug-induced edema: Edema may occur after taking some drugs. Its characteristic is that slight edema occurs after taking the medicine and gradually disappears after stopping the medicine. The more common drugs are adrenal growth hormone, testosterone, estrogen, insulin glargine, etc. Excessive use of rauwolfia, thiourea and licorice can also cause edema.

It is also called edema in early menstrual anxiety syndrome: its characteristics are mild edema of the upper eyelids, ankles and arms 7 to 14 days before menstruation, which may be accompanied by breast pain and pelvic pressure. After menstruation, the urine volume increases, and the edema and other neurological symptoms gradually disappear.

Weight-bearing idiopathic edema: It manifests itself in the relaxed position of the human body, commonly seen in obese adult women, and is often related to emotional and mental changes, accompanied by fatigue, dizziness, headache, anxiety, insomnia and other neurasthenia manifestations, and the standing and supine water test is positive. The cause of this type of edema is unclear, and it may be related to endocrine imbalance and abnormal response to standing posture.
