What sleeping posture should you follow during late pregnancy?

In the late stage of pregnancy, the belly of pregnant women is already fully visible, and its weight seriously affects their sleep at night. The sleeping posture at this time is very important. Pregnant women are prone to edema and high blood pressure at this time, so they need to adopt the correct lying position. Of course, there are many sleeping positions that pregnant women need to pay attention to in the late pregnancy, so many friends in the late pregnancy want to know what is the correct sleeping position. Let’s take a look below.

Adopt a suitable sleeping posture during pregnancy. In the early and middle stages of pregnancy (1 to 7 months), if there is no discomfort, you can lie in any position you like. The lying position is particularly important in late pregnancy (8-10 months). It is advisable to adopt the left side lying position, which can correct the right rotation of the enlarged uterus, reduce the pressure of the uterus on the abdominal aorta and iliac arteries, improve blood circulation, increase blood supply to the fetus, and benefit the growth and development of the fetus. It is not advisable to take the supine position or the right side lying position. All nutrients that the fetus obtains from the mother must reach the endometrial spiral arterioles from the uterine artery, then diffuse through the space between the placenta villi and enter the fetal umbilical cord blood vessels. At the same time, the fetus diffuses waste products such as carbon dioxide in the body through the intervillous spaces and flows downstream into the mother's venous system.

When lying in the supine position, the right rotation of the uterus will cause blood vessels to twist, and the delivery of nutrients will be blocked, so that the fetus cannot get enough nutrition, and it is easy to cause fetal hypoxia, developmental abnormalities, or even death. When lying on your back, the huge uterus compresses the inferior vena cava, which will reduce the amount of blood returning to the heart and cardiac output, and cause hypotension. Pregnant women will feel dizzy, black spots in front of their eyes, palpitations, nausea, shortness of breath, pale face, rapid and weak pulse, weakness in the limbs, cold sweats, etc. This is the symptoms of supine position syndrome during pregnancy. At this time, the pregnant woman should immediately remove the pillow and lie on her side. Her blood pressure will gradually return to normal and the symptoms will disappear. Generally, no pressor drugs are needed. At the same time, when lying on your back, the huge uterus compresses the inferior vena cava, which can also cause poor blood flow in the lower limbs, resulting in varicose veins and edema in the lower limbs and vulva, and even rupture and bleeding in the vagina and uterus, leading to "early placental detachment".

In addition, pregnant women who lie on their backs for a long time will have insufficient blood supply to their kidneys, which will cause an increase in angiotensin levels and induce vasoconstriction. At this time, pregnant women are more likely to develop gestational hypertension or edema due to reduced urine output. If pregnant women lie on their left side, they can reduce or even eliminate edema or high blood pressure. Therefore, it is not advisable to lie on your back. Since the uterus tends to rotate to the right at different angles after pregnancy, if you often lie on your right side, the uterus can further rotate to the right, thereby compressing the blood vessels and affecting the blood supply to the fetus. Therefore, it is not advisable to often lie on your right side.

It is really not easy to be a pregnant woman. Not only do you have to pay attention to daily living habits, eating habits and other tedious precautions, but even a small sleeping position is so important. It seems that pregnant women should remember these instructions carefully, adopt the correct sleeping posture, pay more attention when sleeping, and create a good environment for the baby.
