What is physical therapy for mastitis?

What is physical therapy for mastitis?

Nowadays, mastitis in women is happening more and more frequently. This is closely related to how women take care of their breasts. If you don’t take good care of your breasts and get breast infection, you will get mastitis. There are also many expectant mothers who are prone to mastitis. There are many treatments for mastitis. So what are the physical therapies for mastitis?

Many women may not know what physical therapy is like for acute mastitis. In fact, physical therapy is a very safe treatment method with no side effects. It has basically no effect on the female body, but it can effectively improve the condition and inhibit the development of acute mastitis. Therefore, it is necessary for patients to try it.

Suitable for early treatment of mastitis to promote the disappearance or limitation of inflammation.

1. Cold compress treatment

Cold compress can lower local temperature, reduce capillary exudation, and slow down the conduction of peripheral nerve impulses. It has the effects of relieving pain, reducing swelling, inhibiting the spread of inflammation, and reducing milk secretion. Abscess formation is faster with hot compress than with cold compress. The incision and drainage rate of cold compress is 40.42%, which is lower than that of hot compress (the incision rate of hot compress is 82.9%). The earlier the cold compress is applied, the better.

① Timing: In the early stage of acute inflammation (within 24 hours after onset), within 48 hours before the inflammation is under control. After 48 hours, hot compress can be used instead.

②Method: After crushing the ice, rinse off the edges with cold water and put in an ice bag. Wrap the ice bag with cotton cloth and place it on the hardened area for 3 to 4 hours. Cold compress can be applied again after the local skin has rewarmed. If the local numbness and pain are unbearable, change to short-term cold compress, and cold water compress can be used in winter.

③Note: Drink more water while applying cold compress to dilute the milk, reduce congestion, and facilitate the discharge of milk, so as to play a drainage and flushing role, which is beneficial to the subsidence of inflammation. When applying cold compress, care must be taken to prevent local frostbite. If the symptoms cannot be controlled by cold compress within 24 hours after the onset of the disease, you can give up the cold compress and switch to hot compress to facilitate the absorption of inflammation.

2. Hot compress treatment

Three days after the onset of acute mastitis, local lesions showed infiltration and exudation changes. At this time, hot compress can increase local tissue blood flow, promote leukocyte chemotaxis, improve the phagocytic function of leukocytes, promote the absorption, localization and liquefaction of inflammatory exudates, and has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.

① Timing: 24 hours or 48 hours after onset, when inflammation is localized.

②Method: Apply warm compress of about 50℃ to the red and swollen area and cover with gauze pad to keep warm. Each time, 20 to 30 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day. For those with obvious edema, 25% magnesium sulfate hot compress can be used.

3. Infrared and ultraviolet rays

The former has strong thermal penetration and can reach deep into the breast tissue, and its effect is better than moist heat compress; the latter has strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects through photochemical action.

The above is the physical therapy for treating mastitis. When treating mastitis, you should improve your mood. If you are in a bad mood, mastitis will be seriously affected. During the treatment of mastitis, you should take care of your breasts and clean them more. If you suffer from mastitis during breastfeeding, you should let the child suck more when treating mastitis.
