How to sleep in the fifth month of pregnancy

People's sleeping posture is what they feel most comfortable in. Many people like to sleep on their stomachs, sides or backs. Sleeping in a very casual way can allow the body to rest better. However, this is not allowed for many pregnant women, especially sleeping on their stomachs as it will press on the baby. So in the following article, let's learn about the sleeping posture during the 5th month of pregnancy and what you should pay attention to!

There are three main sleeping positions: lying on your back, lying on your side, and lying on your stomach. For most people, it is better to lie on the right side, because the heart is located on the left side of the chest cavity. This sleeping position can reduce the pressure on the heart. But for pregnant women, the best sleeping position is lying on the left side. This is because when lying on your back, the enlarged uterus will compress the inferior vena cava, which can easily affect blood return and breathing; when lying on your right side, the uterus will rotate to the right to varying degrees, causing the blood vessels in the mesentery to be pulled, affecting the blood supply to the fetus; lying on your stomach is rarely done by normal people, and it is neither realistic nor possible for pregnant women with big bellies.

Pregnant women sleeping on their left side can not only reduce fetal position and delivery abnormalities, but also help reduce premature birth and avoid uterine pressure on the kidneys. Especially when the fetus is growth-retarded, lying on the left side can achieve better treatment results. Therefore, it is very important for pregnant women to sleep on their left side for good pregnancy and childbirth, as well as the health of mother and baby.

Sleeping positions during early, mid and late pregnancy

In the early stages of pregnancy (1-3 months), the fetus develops in the uterus and is still in the mother's pelvic cavity. Direct external pressure or self-pressure will not be very severe, so the sleeping posture of the pregnant woman can be arbitrary, mainly adopting a comfortable position, such as supine or side-lying. Bad sleeping positions such as sleeping on your stomach or sleeping with your arms around something should be changed.

During the second trimester of pregnancy (4-7 months), you should pay attention to protecting your abdomen and avoid direct external force. If a pregnant woman has too much amniotic fluid or is pregnant with twins, she should sleep in a side-lying position, which can make her more comfortable. Other sleeping positions will cause compression symptoms. If a pregnant woman feels heavy in her lower limbs, she can lie on her back and slightly raise her lower limbs with a soft pillow.

After pregnancy, of course you should pay attention to your daily life and personal rest time. Paying more attention to rest is a better service for the baby. Otherwise, it will easily cause the belly to press on the baby and cause problems in the child's development. Therefore, you must maintain the correct sleeping posture during the 5th month of pregnancy.
