Why does pregnant women have blood in their stool?

Healthy people will not bleed when they go to the toilet. Only unhealthy people may have blood in their stools. In theory, although pregnant women are a group of people who need special care, it does not mean that pregnant women are weak, so pregnant women should not have blood in their stools. However, some pregnant women reported that they found blood in their stools when they went to the toilet. What is going on?

Many women experience bleeding in their stools during pregnancy, and this phenomenon is very common, so it needs to be taken seriously by expectant mothers. What exactly happens when a pregnant woman has bloody stools? First of all, pregnant mothers should not treat it hastily. They should go to the hospital to find out the cause of the bleeding and seek treatment as soon as possible to avoid endangering the health of mother and child.

After a woman becomes pregnant, her abdominal pressure may increase, especially in the late stages of pregnancy. The inferior vena cava is compressed by the growing uterus, which directly affects the return of the hemorrhoidal veins and easily induces hemorrhoids. This situation is particularly obvious when the fetus is in an abnormal position. Blood in the stool during pregnancy is mainly caused by hemorrhoids, but other causes of blood in the stool cannot be ruled out. For example: 1. Hemorrhoidal bleeding occurs during or after defecation, in the form of drops or sprays of blood, which is bright red and does not mix with feces. 2. Anal fissure is bright red, with blood stains after dripping or wiping with toilet paper, and there is severe anal pain after defecation. 3. If the blood in the stool is black and red, it is mostly upper gastrointestinal bleeding; if the blood is red, it is mostly lower gastrointestinal bleeding.

In addition, pregnant women generally have less activity, which causes their gastrointestinal function to weaken, and the feces remain in the intestinal cavity. The water in the feces is absorbed in large quantities, causing dry stools and inducing hemorrhoids. Therefore, during pregnancy, you should increase your activities appropriately, avoid standing or sitting for long periods of time, and pay attention to keeping your bowels open. After each bowel movement, you should use warm water to fumigate and wash the anus to improve local blood circulation in the anus, which is very beneficial for preventing hemorrhoids.

Experts say that bloody stools in pregnant women are mainly caused by hemorrhoids. This is because as the fetus grows during pregnancy, the pelvic cavity becomes larger and larger, causing severe pressure on the rectum, causing congestion of the rectal veins, forming venous masses, and causing hemorrhoids. Bleeding in the stool caused by hemorrhoids occurs during or after defecation, and appears as drops or spurts. The blood is bright red and does not mix with the stool. During pregnancy, women do not exercise enough and are too particular about their diet, which slows down their intestinal peristalsis and leads to difficulty in defecation and constipation. Constipation makes defecation difficult and can easily injure the anus when straining during defecation, causing anal abrasions, bloody stools, and anal pain. If this happens repeatedly, the anus may be damaged multiple times, causing anal fissures and bloody stools. Although anal fissures do not cause much bleeding, if not treated promptly, blood in the stool will continue to occur, which can lead to anemia in the long run. If the blood in the stool is dark red, it is mostly upper gastrointestinal bleeding; if the blood in the stool is bright red, it is mostly lower gastrointestinal bleeding.

The above are the measures that pregnant women should take when they have blood in their stools. Pregnant women should be very careful about their daily living habits and eating habits, because once any mistakes occur, it will be difficult to make up for them. Also, it is understandable that pregnant women would help others when they are unable to handle a situation themselves.
