How to treat compensatory menstruation

Maybe many people don’t understand it very well, or have never even heard of the so-called compensatory menstruation. Compensatory menstruation is a regular and periodic phenomenon such as nosebleeds. If this phenomenon recurs for a long time, early treatment is required. Western medicine treatment

(1) Local hemostasis: For superficial bleeding from the nose, eyelids, external auditory canal and skin, compression, laser, electrocautery and other methods can be used to stop bleeding. In case of nose bleeding, cotton balls containing ephedrine, naphazoline (Biyanjing) or other vasoconstrictive drugs can be used to stop bleeding by inserting them into the nasal cavity. If the amount of bleeding is heavy and you have difficulty stopping the bleeding yourself, you should go to the hospital and ask a doctor for treatment in time.

Chinese Medicine Treatment

According to the clinical findings of reverse menstruation, it is generally divided into three types of syndromes for diagnosis and treatment: liver meridian stagnation of fire, lung and kidney yin deficiency, and stomach fire blazing.

1. Liver meridian fire depression type: patients show symptoms of oral and nose bleeding before or during menstruation, with heavy, red bleeding, and lumps, accompanied by irritability, dizziness, tinnitus, red eyes, thirst, or breast and flank pain. Menstruation is often early, with less menstrual volume, red tongue with yellow coating, and a stringy and rapid pulse.

The treatment should be to soothe the liver, clear away heat, and guide blood downward. The prescription is Danzhi Xiaoyao San with modifications. The prescription: 15 grams of Angelica sinensis, 15 grams of white peony root, 15 grams of Bupleurum chinense, 15 grams of Poria cocos, 15 grams of mint, 10 grams of Moutan bark, 10 grams of Gardenia jasminoides, 15 grams of Rehmannia glutinosa, 10 grams of Scutellaria baicalensis, 10 grams of Gentiana scabra, 10 grams of Licorice, 30 grams of Imperata root, and 10 grams of Rubia cordifolia. The above dosage is for one dose. Decoction in water and take in 3 times, one dose per day.

2. Lung and kidney yin deficiency type: patients show symptoms of epistaxis or vomiting blood when the menstruation is about to end or after the menstruation, with a small amount of blood and bright red color, accompanied by dizziness, hot flashes, red cheeks, fever in the five parts of the body, dry mouth and throat, soreness of the waist and knees, dry cough without sputum, weight loss, etc. Menstruation is often early and in small amount, the tongue is red and dry, and the pulse is thin and rapid.

The treatment should be to nourish yin, clear away heat, reduce adverse effects and stop bleeding. The prescription is Zhibai Dihuang Decoction with added ingredients: 20 grams of Rehmannia glutinosa, 20 grams of yam, 20 grams of Cornus officinalis, 20 grams of Poria cocos, 15 grams of Moutan bark, 15 grams of Alisma orientalis, 20 grams of Anemarrhena asphodeloides, 10 grams of Phellodendron chinense, 20 grams of Achyranthes bidentata, 20 grams of Morus alba, 20 grams of Houttuynia cordata, 20 grams of Adenophora stellariae, 20 grams of Ophiopogon japonicus, and 15 grams of roasted Licorice root. The above dosage is for one dose. Decoction in water and take in 3 times, one dose per day.

3. Stomach fire type: patients experience vomiting blood, nosebleeds, and bloody stools before or during menstruation, which are large in amount and bright red, accompanied by thirst, heat in the chest, foul breath, swollen and painful gums, dry throat and mouth, short and red urine, constipation, red tongue with yellow coating, and rapid pulse.

The treatment should be to clear the stomach and reduce fire, and guide the blood downward. The prescription is Baihu Decoction combined with Xiexin Decoction with modifications. The prescription: 50 grams of raw gypsum (fried first), 10 grams of coptis chinensis, 10 grams of rhubarb, 10 grams of scutellaria baicalensis, 20 grams of raw rehmannia, 15 grams of anemarrhena asphodeloides, 10 grams of moutan bark, 10 grams of gardenia, 30 grams of imperata root, 20 grams of lotus node, 30 grams of agrimony, and 15 grams of raw licorice. The above dosage is for one dose. Decoction in water and take in 3 times, one dose per day.

Other treatments

1. One or two days before the menstrual period, keep your emotions stable and your mood happy, eat more vegetables and fruits, drink more water, and avoid pinching your nose hard, which can effectively prevent retrograde menstruation.

2. When patients with retrograde menstruation have nose bleeding or vomiting blood, let the patient sit on a chair, tilt his head back, and apply a cold towel to the forehead and bridge of the nose. You can also use your fingers to press the Yingxiang point, which is located one inch in the depression next to the nose wing, to stop the bleeding.

Different treatment plans need to be based on your specific condition. Do not use drugs at will without examination to avoid worsening of the condition.
