Features of primary trigeminal neuralgia

Primary trigeminal neuralgia is a relatively special type of neuralgia. Primary trigeminal neuralgia usually refers to a functional or qualitative lesion without neurological characteristics, and primary trigeminal neuralgia usually does not have particularly obvious onset feedback under various existing instrument examinations. Today I will introduce to you the main symptoms of this special primary trigeminal neuralgia.

Characteristics of seizures

Primary trigeminal neuralgia usually occurs after the age of 40 and is more common in women. Its clinical manifestations have the following characteristics:

(l) Pain attacks often occur without warning and are sudden, lightning-like, short-term and severe pain.

(2) The nature of the pain varies, and may be tearing, electric burning, knife cutting, or needle pricking.

(3) Patients have a particularly painful expression when the pain attacks, and often rub the affected side of the face with the palm or a towel to relieve the pain. Some patients chew continuously during the attack. Severe attacks are often accompanied by reflex twitching of facial muscles, the corner of the mouth pulling to one side, redness of the face, conjunctival congestion, tearing, drooling and other symptoms.

(4) Each attack lasts from a few seconds to one or two minutes and stops suddenly.

(5) The pain often starts in a branch of the trigeminal nerve and then gradually spreads. If the pain originates from the infraorbital nerve, it will radiate to the lower eyelid, nose wing and upper lip; if it originates from the second branch of the trigeminal nerve, it will radiate to the lower face, lower lip and forehead; if it originates from the supraorbital nerve, it will radiate to the forehead and upper eyelid on the same side. In a few cases, the pain spreads to the three branches of the trigeminal nerve and sometimes even to the opposite side.

(6) There is no pain during the intermittent period, but the pain may recur after a period of time. In the early stage of the disease, the number of attacks is less and the intervals between attacks are longer, but the condition gradually worsens. Later, the pain attacks become more and more severe, and the intervals between attacks become shorter and shorter, until they last all day long.

(7) The course of the disease may be cyclical, with each attack lasting for weeks or months. Rarely heals spontaneously.

(8) Some cases are related to climate, with more cases occurring in winter and spring.

Primary trigeminal neuralgia is not a serious disease, and existing medical methods and discoveries do not have very clear treatment methods, so for patients with

Patients with primary trigeminal neuralgia are generally advised to undergo formal examinations and follow the doctor's advice to effectively treat this symptom.
